What are your thoughs on paternity leave?

For me it should be a right.

I have always taken it, both for my first daughter and now for my twins, and nobody said anything because I am the boss so they can't really argue, and on paper it's a vacation.

In my country not many employers recognize it and award it, and honestly I find it stupid - how can a new mother take care of everything herself with the newborn? She needs support from her man.

How many days of parental benefits will the family receive in this case?

For example: if the mother takes her maternity leave 31 calendar days before the estimated date of birth of the child, the family becomes entitled to the following parental benefits:

The mother becomes entitled to the maternity benefit and, in connection with it, maternity leave for 61 calendar days (31 days before the estimated date of birth of the child + 30 days after the estimated date of birth of the child)
Both the child’s mother and father have the right to use the shared parental benefit. Here, the parents can decide for themselves which of the parents will receive the shared parental benefit. However, as the child’s mother started to use the maternity benefit later than the permitted 70 calendar days before the child’s estimated date of birth, in connection with that, the shared parental benefit will be extended by the number of unused maternity benefits days the mother was entitled to (100-61=39 calendar days). If otherwise, the duration of the shared parental benefit would have been 475 calendar days, but now it is 514 calendar days (475+39 calendar days).
The father is entitled to a paternity benefit of 30 calendar days.

In total, the family has 605 calendar days of parental benefit (61+514+30 calendar days).

It is very important for dads to be home during that time to support mom and baby. Also to help with the things she can't do around the house.

With each baby my husband has gotten more and more paternity leave. Definitely helps a lot. With our 1st and 2nd he only got a few days then after that everything was put on me. Took forever to heal and probably caused my postpartum depression. Not sure how I even survived back then tbh. Things were bad..

3rd and 4th baby he was home for 3 months so that was a lot better. I had time to rest and heal since he was able to help.

It is a right where I live but it's nowhere near as long as it is for the mom and there are several rules to be able to benefit from it. If I was a man I would fight for more but it seems like the men here are fine with it, they don't care as much about their babies or their new mom wife lol

The saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child”.
It’s important to have the support. I don’t understand how women do it without help. Then back to work after 6 weeks. I heard my job started 3 months leave for dad/mom, the Union fought and got it 5 years. ago.
I was stay at home mom for 3 years. amd I had my whole family helped. In our tradition, we are not allow to do any work for the first month except caring for the newborn.
my sisters, mom, sister in law, mother in law…all the women did the house work…cooking traditional foods. Men drive. And help with other things.

I think it should definitely be a thing. You are right. Both parents are a unit and the child needs both parents especially in the early days of a child's life. It should definitely not just be maternity leave honored.
