Is giving up always a sign of weakness or can it indicate common sense?

Stockton Rush was a guy who built a deep sea submersible out of inappropriate material for financial reasons, and also failed to include safety features because "safety is a waste of money" according to him.

He was told by his chief engineer, a safety organization, and many others that his submersible was grossly unsafe. He did not listen.

Instead of giving up and starting a new project, he ignored the advice he was given and took the submersible on a very deep dive to the Titanic wreck site.

He and four others were killed as a result of the poor design of the submersible.

Would he have been better off by giving up, or would that have made him "weak" ?

I was thinking about it the other day, and after break up,

Here’s what I learned, I should have given up on that relationship earlier, but I was persistent and believed love can beat it all.

Though, it turned out sometimes being persistent, not tolerating the obstacles and fighting for your goal - can break you.

Sometimes Arundo is more strong than an iron.

My ex ended up being Arundo, flexible and adaptable to the new life without me,

I though, was thinking giving up on going to him would be a weakness and had my clock set to the China time for 2 years and tried every way to go to him every new day.

I must have been smarter and given up on it earlier. I put all my effort, he too needed to put half of the effort instead of waiting for me like a Princess waits for a prince to save her.

He tried a few times but then when he failed he gave up.

Giving up can be a strength sometimes.

Had I been in that situation now, I’d set a time, we should either see each other in a certain timeframe or all is just illusion, you must be able to touch someone, smell his neck, hold his hand, feel his body next to you, laugh with him, travel with him, have sex with him, just be there with him - that’s love.

Everything else is just a futile promise of the love, not an actual love and it’s unhealthy when you crave the touch and can’t be touched.

So yeah, giving up - can be a strength.

and knowing what I know now, I’d do that earlier.

I never give up. I am not sure if I consider people that quit to be weak but outlasting everyone else was always something I was good at. I have tried something that did not work out and kept at it until I succeeded or else I have had a few times when I should have cut my losses but was too stubborn to quit.

O Stockto Rush was cheap and impatient. He should have done it right instead of taking shortcuts. I am am not an expert but I bet if I looked at that sub I would have known it was not safe.

Giving up sometimes allows you to come back and try again. Seems more common sense than most pyric victories and just about all defeats. Knowing which is which is true strength.

I think it can indicate common sense especially when it comes to money matters/investments. You're not about to keep throwing money at something that isn't giving you any returns.
