Being liked isn't so important as having somebody doing what they should do with you. Making sure they have integrity... are trustworthy. something like that is how i interpret this.

Wow. . . me and my nieces and nephews played this scene over and over again a thousand times. What I loved about Denzel's character is that he was far from perfect. But you could understand what he was about and where he was coming from.

Like for instance if you are at your job your boss doesn’t have to like you, just make sure they pay you what they owe you. Ne around people who mean what they say, keep their obligations or promises. That kinda thing

I somewhat agree. It's good if people like you, everybody wants to be liked. But at the same time yes, it's important if they treat you the way they should.
