Why do people develop their intellect and never their awareness? Awareness is the cause of results. So why is everyone obsessed with the intellect?

Nobody wants to do the hard work. I had a pretty hardscrabble life when I was growing up and had a hard time as a young adult as well. I worked hard and persevered but had many setbacks.
I made sure my kids did not have to have the same struggles. Sometimes I wonder if I really did them a favor.
