Why is the nuclear family frowned upon by American and British progressives?

I don’t get it. Why is it seem as progressive to be in the foster system or be raised in a single parent household? I don’t know the history behind.

Broadly, because it became more important to be seen as being against something than FOR something.

More specifically, the attitude went from "we shouldn't hold people's backgrounds against them" to "people from disadvantaged backgrounds should be praised for not trying to hide it" to "people from disadvantaged backgrounds should be praised for being from disadvantaged backgrounds". Commonsense liberalism, meritocratic as all get out, differed notably from more conservative and, frankly, bigoted conservative attitudes of twenty years ago- but not as much as whackazoid progressivist attitudes, which gained traction for being MORE opposed to conservative thought. The value wasn't in being better reasoned or backed up with more hard data; it was being further from the "other side". This got more attention, media consolidation mean that was turned into more support, and it gradually became the dominant voice in that sector of society.

The the Right began a huge shift toward the center, and the Left lost its mind completely. The old attitude of "there's value in non-traditional family structures, too, and we should appreciate them for what they offer, instead of condemning them for what they don't" gave way to "this isn't what the Republicans want, so it MUST be amazing!".

Think that sounds ridiculous? Look at the rhetoric (just the rhetoric, for the moment) around the Covid shots: were you to pore over Twitter posts, how many people do you think you'd find going from "I'll never take a Trump 'vaccine'" to "Those who don't the shot should lose their jobs!" with the change of an administration?

The thing is, this isn't new. Chesterton himself wrote: "Compromise used to mean that half a loaf was better than no bread. Among modern statesmen it really seems to mean that half a loaf is better than a whole loaf." That's from "What's wrong with the world", published in 1910.

Because destroying the family is necessary for the state to take control of raising/indoctrinating kids. Some people will try to play some wild mental gymnastics to say otherwise, some of them even believe it, but that is entirely the reason. Everything the big government progressives and political establishment class does is in the name of accruing power, and getting more people dependent on government assistance programs is one of the best ways to do it.

A nuclear family is an amazing thing. At the same time claiming to be the greatest country to ever exist you would think non nuclear familys was as just as viable?

The reality is that's not what everyday home life is and being the greatest country to ever exist we should be able to make the best of amy situation.

Because the state is your family. Plus there is benefit in real estate to segmenting families across multiple estates than keeping them in a single one together, of course this benefit does not benefit regular people..

how does it keep women down when men are still the ones needed to bring the vast majority of finances, do the heavy lifting, be perceived as the "douchebag" parent when he disciplines his kids, sacrifice his body against a home intruder, possibly lose everything in a divorce and not "complain" about it?
