Does white privilege exist? what privileges do I have as a white woman?

It’s more about stuff that DOESN’T happen to you. Of course it doesn’t mean you get a free house and a free car and free lunch at your favorite Olive Garden location, but it’s just an underlying thing, unconscious assumptions other will or won’t make about you. If you drive past a cop, the cop might, without even knowing it, think to themselves that you don’t look suspicious. LiI Wayne had a lyric back in the day, “sim-seema, ten kid’s in the Beamer, got a white girl drivin’, couldn’t do it much cleaner.” He uses this white woman as a drug mule because she has white privilege. If he were to drive past a cop, younger looking black dude with dreadlocks, that same cop might say “that guy looks suspicious, I’d better follow him and try to effect a traffic stop to search him.” That’s a more extreme example, but it can be something simpler. I’m a fisherman, I’ve seen all kinds of videos of protective property owners (and experienced some firsthand) harassing people fishing on what they believe to be their property (even though half the time you’re on a boat and they’re just mad they can’t stop you from being on the water just off of their property). They can all be assholes to you, but usually white fisherman just get shooed away, non-white people are being threatened with police.

This isn’t even the video I was thinking of, the other guy was Latino, and she’s following him, calling him a “fucking Cuban”, telling him this America, speak English (he was already🤦‍♂️). I’ve dealt with a couple rude people, and many are Uber-wealthy “old money” types at this one lake in question. But one thing that never came up was me being white, and often, they were satisfied easily upon talking to them. But other people, like in the video…. this guy’s in his OWN NEIGHBORHOOD, and someone just spotted him and apparently thought “YOU don’t look like you should be here…”, and initiated a confrontation to check him out. I don’t think she does that if it’s me out there. THAT’S a big part of white privilege, just other white people not harboring automatic suspicions of you.

I think the only one you have based on race is that you'll generally be seen as more professional.

As a woman you have quite a few more but so do other women.

Being a white woman in itself does not really yield many advantages that you'd not have being just white or just a woman. Possibly the combination means you're more likely to be taken seriously if you need help with things? I'd imagine white women score first there.

Of course there are advantages attached to every ethnicity but being white likely nets you fewer of those than most other would. If anything it also nets relatively few drawbacks.

You aren't privileged in the fact that you are the only color people are allowed to speak ill of. But the only way white people are privileged is in the fact that we are self reliant.
