I'm white and I have had my fair struggles but what exactly is my privilege?

According to Google, “White privilege, or white skin privilege, is the societal privilege that benefits white people over non-white people in some societies, particularly if they are otherwise under the same social, political, or economic circumstances. “ Now that we have the definition, I do feel that fair skinned people do have an unfair edge- skin color. However I feel that white privilege is mislabeled. I feel that white privilege is actually non-white underprivilege. Here is a crudely drawn picture of my privilege scaleet’s imagine privilege as a scale of one to five. One is impoverished and 5 is living comfortably/well off. Often times people of color tend to populate the lower part of the scale, where Caucasian people tend to be higher up on the scale. However stating that white people are privileged implies that white people have more than they should, when I feel that white people are more likely to have what they NEED. For a person to be privileged I feel they need to have more of what they need. Like an excess. Being more likely to get a job or be proven innocent in court isn’t a luxury, it’s basic needs. I feel that white people are more like to be at a number five on the scale. They have what they need and a little more. Everyone one else is lower on the scale because of basic things that they cannot enjoy like their white counterparts. Non-whites are often given subpar treatment. To them it may look like whites are getting special treatment. Actually they are just getting treated normally, as everyone should.

the word privilege, especially for poor and rural white people, sounds like a word that doesn’t belong to them—like a word that suggests they have never struggled. This defensiveness derails the conversation, so I’ll clarify White privilege is not the suggestion that white people have never struggled. And white privilege is not the assumption that everything a white person has accomplished is unearnedwhite privilege should be viewed as a built-in advantage, separate from one’s level of income or effort. A much simpler definition of white privileged would be having greater access to power and resources than people of color [in the same situation] do. It’s complex since it requires a understanding of history but their are many good resources for free online that go more into depth

OMG! You are PRECISELY the sort of person that the term "white privilege" describes. It is INCREDIBLE how profoundly ignorant of history you are. I am sorry—I am not trying to be offensive, really I'm not... I'm just... well, I'm truly dumbfounded that you are ignorant of its meanings and implications. I am ASSUMING that your question is honest, and is NOT a disingenuously cloaked racist trollbait.

Start with history thousands of years ago. Continue through medieval times, the Renaissance, on through contemporary history. Don't focus on racism in America—it's actually xenophobic bigots that insist that Americans "invented" racism. White Privilege is alive and well in many non-American countries, and has actually endured for far longer than America has existed.

I'm not being coy. You need to learn this, and it's better you learn for yourself than have the pat answer handed to you. It will mean more if you make the effort to learn why whites often have advantages just by the virtue of not having been born red, brown, or yellow. I genuinely wish you the best in your endeavors to study.

It's the cult of wokeness version of original sin. A term mainly used in character assassination attempts of an individual who is white or is assumed to be white with an overly broad definition which makes it difficult to deflect. Responses to a denial of this accusation are often Kafka traps which would likely be along the lines of "privilege is invisible to those who have it".

In most cases, it can refer to someone being able to be as successful as they are because they are white or that their life is easier in general. This is justified with evidence that is either difficult or impossible to prove or very trivial in the average person's life (like seeing mostly white authors in a bookstore).
