Why do people think white privilege exists?

The problem of this is how it is interpreted.

The privilege is more of a generational head start rather than a all white people have it easier.

Just my grandparents weren't even allowed to be around white people or even eat with them.

They had very few opportunities except for the opportunities most white didn't want.

My parents had more opportunities but less chances.

So white people in America had all the opportunities for many generations.

So white people kinda had hundreds of years to establish themselves in roles that other races wanted but weren't allowed to get, so other races may have the same opportunities now but they are only 2nd generation of being allowed to get something or get an education that white people had hundreds of years to establish themselves in.

Well this just isn't true slavery ended in the 1840s. Slavery was voluntary in 1940s and technically it wasn't even slavery cause they got paid. Hundreds of years to establish themselves but white people are still the poorest race right?

So you telling in 1960s they didn't have white entrances and black entrances white people restaurants and non white?
And a black man or woman could apply for a management position?
Segregation didn't even end till 1964.
Saying slavery ended and black people being allowed to get jobs that white people were allowed to get very different.

Many black people couldn't even walk in a white neighborhood without being attacked or beaten by the police for it. Let alone being allowed to work a job that white people wanted or worked at unless they were janitors or something similar.

The mediium and middle class jobs are not what we are talking about.

The wealth or high paid jobs. We can look at it and see what it consists of.
Why because for hundreds of years they put themselves in these positions with out any chance of other races doing it because it wasn't gonna be accepted.
Look at what happened black wall street.
That was just a hundred years ago.
It was a black owned city that was very successful.
They came in and bombed and killed and destroyed the entire city.
Why? Because black people were making too much money. These examples are what i mean by opportunities.
They refused to let black people be successful until 40 years ago because of laws.
It's the headstart.
This isn't hate from me and not complaining.
I just want wanted to explain how I see the term white privilege.
The past is the past but it all can impact the current situation.
I think we are seeing now what happens with our opportunities being given to us, we are starting to see more black wealth but we are still behind and just getting started.

Just because there are many white people who didn't take advantage or appreciate their opportunities that many blacks would die to have doesn't mean it was reality

Here's the thing by any of this you're saying it would have creedence if most people were rich but whites have the highest poverty rate. It doesn't matter if they had 100s of years to establish anything it's not like everyone that's in a rich family becomes rich...

This is going over your head. The privilege isn't as i keep saying that all white people are rich or the majority are or they are given better jobs.
I'm not sure why you think white privilege has anything to do with who is the poorest. Or who has it worst. Look at the small group of established people in power it's not hard to figure out why they are in power and they gender and race.

It's the elite positions are dominated by them because they are established in the positions because of generation after generations of head start.
This generation we see more people of color starting to get power but they are first generation rich instead of several generations.
The reason most politicians are white male, or execs or positions of power is the generations headstart.
That's the privilege, the people of power control the establishment.
Now that we get opportunities we see more poc stepping up but they are outnumbered because of the headstart given to white people.
In 1 or 2 more generations we will see this much more of a even playing field.

Privilege? No.
There is a level of prejudice associated with other races but they all benifit from the same set of rights and restrictions some people just don't know the meaning of compliance and end up in situations where they break the law.

I am not a white guy for instance and yet I live in a white dominant country just this morning in the train station cops where doing random checks on people. I was skipped and the white guy behind me was searched that's the kind of thing that don't always make it to mainstream media and that's due to social movement using race to push their own political agendas and win various elections by unifying a race of people behind a banner of hate and division

I have no idea. I mean there are generalized things we might point to that offer societal privileges for being white, but so too are there privileges to being any other ethnicity. It's too difficult to compare privileges and adversity anyway with other individuals. You know, it's like male privilege is a thing but so is female privilege. How do we compare each other's shoes?

Yet the reason I don't like focusing on this is that I actually don't think it matters. Take thin privilege as the easiest example. Definitely, there are people who will have an easier time getting and staying lean than people with, say, hypothyroid or PCOS. But so what? That doesn't change what people should do if they wanna lean down. It's just that some will have to work a bit harder than others. Going around blaming people for having thin privilege is not gonna help a morbidly obese person lose fat. If anything, that's probably going to distract them from such a goal.

It's because they have no frame of reference and they assume races work in a collective. Chances are, no one has ever been another race other than what they are right now so they have no idea how much better/worse the lives of someone of another race may be.

I think its a dehumanizing tactic that is very common in the development in many authoritarian regimes.
