You can complain about and single out Microsoft all day long, but literally every other big tech entertainment company does the exact same thing. The gaming industry has been a race to the bottom for a decade and it's not going to stop any time soon.

Now if you want to know why the government never seems willing to take Microsoft to task in any serious way, it's because the entire government runs on Microsoft products, and a significant majority of congressmen are stakeholders and/or beneficiaries of Microsoft lobbyists. That means not only are most of them willing to defend Microsoft in public, but even the people that aren't receiving money from them one way or another won't touch them in fear of getting torched by their own party establishment class.

Microsoft were always evil bastards, but the computer wars are done and gone. Unfortunately there are no Commodore, Atari or Amstrad anymore, even IBM threw the towel with OS/2. I wish it were different. 🙁

Just install Linux and buy all your video games through steam. Their SteamOS/Proton/Linux offerings are extensive. No need for Microsoft.

Currently there are 10,607 games offered that are considered compatible with Linux in their store. You can probably find another 5,000-7000 on top of that that seem to work perfectly fine through proton based on user reviews on protondb. com
