+1 yBecause at the end of the day the military is being used as tool for dog shit foreign policy by lobbyists and government officials. Getting sent for resource gathering in proxy wars in the name of freedom is not only disingenuous, but outright insulting of the generations that fought for the right reasons and the foundation the country was founded on. It would be one thing if it was to help an allied nation or our homeland, but at the end of the day it is the military industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned us all about.
Soldiers are only as useful for as long as they wear the uniform and if you have worn it in the last 40 years, you will understand that once your time is up, you are just a number to be replaced if you don't get killed first. VA systems are shit, homelessness is high, you get attacked by leftist shitbags for wearing it and labeled as a baby killer when you may not have even been deployed to do anything or haven't killed anyone. Recruiting is at a huge low and the military itself if being transformed into a social experiment for ideology that not only opposes what its intent and purposes are for, but another big thing is accountability. Senior leaders preach taking integrity and accountability like the Bible, but the higher you are and more power, sway and political it gets, there is none to be had. The few that follow the rule are dismissed or thrown to the wolves as a deflection.
However seeing in the comments here, it shows more why. Although the individuals saying that anyone who joins are idiots are just as bad as those that blatantly badmouth the servicemen in and haven't done anything or can be labeled with as their predecessors. I am in and have had the luxury of meeting some of the best and legit down to earth good people and act as a commander to them as well. However being in has also allowed me to see the bad on a lot of levels which is the insight I gave earlier in my response.
For those reading this- if you wish to serve, go for it. For those that don't, refrain from labeling us all as mindless idiots and killers, because that is far from the truth. Some serve because they want to. Some do it for family and better life. Some do it for glory. It is not all the same across the board.

Military leadership at the policy-making level is so wildly out of touch with reality that it's driving all but the most blindly hooah soldiers out to pursue other goals, who in turn warn anyone who asks them that it's no longer worth it. Furthermore, the military has gotten increasingly anti-family for multiple reasons (not just the woke nonsense), which doesn't exactly appeal to the "patriotic red-blooded American" crowd, or the young men looking for a foundation to start early. The majority of soldiers in the US come from families with a tradition of service, and losing even a fraction of that demographic cripples recruitment potential. Furthermore and equally important, retention has been a serious problem for a while as bribes- I mean "incentives" to convince NCOs to reenlist have gotten hilariously petty and desperate while actively refusing (even denying clearly defined statistics) to address serious reasons why people want to leave.
The military also has a major image and branding problem, especially in the last few years. This is most easily seen in recruitment ads prioritizing intersectional gender identity bullsh*t over actual reasons people should want to serve.

5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Why would anybody want to join the military? Sell your soul to do whatever you are ordered to do by psychopaths who run the State Department? Kill people who are defending themselves against U. S. aggression? Get PTSD or mutilated or killed? For what?
I became eligible for the draft just when the draft ended in 1973. Thank God! There's no way I wanted to go to Viet Nam.
If my country was actually being attacked, that would be another thing.

The military isn't run by State department. Truth of the matter is most of the time they don't get along at all.

@BoopBoopBeep. You're right. My mentioning of the State Department wasn't exactly accurate. The psychopaths running the entire imperialistic war machine are responsible.

8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. One of my former students joined the Marines. He was in great shape, very intelligent and came from a large family headed by a single mom, meaning he had a lot of financial incentive to join. He was the perfect recruit.
The Army is having more problems with recruitment than the other services, so it's not just leftist ideology being forced on the military in general by the Democrats (although that is a big factor). I think it's also that kids who comprise the group of young people who traditionally have joined the military are not as physically and mentally active as they used to be.

Recruit quality and quality of leadership have declined in the Army from what people who have served within the past decade have told me. Part of it was when former gang members and people with some convictions were brought in during the Bush 43 presidency. Some of them now are in leadership positions like First Sergeants.

Back in 1995 one of my best friend joined the Marines, traveled through South America, partied like an animal, and met the most beautiful women in his life. It sounded like a blast and I was thinking about doing it, but I don't take orders well and question everything. About 8 or 9 years later I was working at Home Depot. This 19 year old kid who just got back from Iraq started working there and he was fucked in the head. The shit he had to do to survive was insane. He killed a shitload of people, like 70 or something and then told them he wouldn't do it anymore and was cut loose. Nobody should be asked to do that for some bullshit war like Iraq. If our country was invaded, that's different.

+1 yThe military isn't worth it. Why go risk my life, limbs and freedom while some old rich moron lives a life of luxury and has no problem sending me to fight for his bs ambitions?

There are lots of kids that can't pass the written test. Some have criminal records and some are on drugs. When I was a kid if you got arrested and went before a judge he may give you the option of either joining the Army of go to jail. Now the Army does not want those kids anymore

This is one thing that Republicans get right. They disempower the crap out of the government so we don’t gave massive invasions and wars like we used. If there is anything Democrats love, it’s a war. The hypocrisy of Democracy.
