I mean there are American German and French people but they don't know how to speak German or French.

That's a good point. I grew up around Mexicans and I only met one half Native half Mexican girl in my life who didn't speak Spanish.
Most Hispanic-Americans are first generation. They grew up speaking Spanish at home, and most seem to at least know basic Spanish.
When it's so common, I guess it becomes expected, so it's surprising when you meet one who doesn't. The Latino-Americans who don't speak Spanish are certainly in the minority.
I think French and German are different. Most of those came here several generations ago and saw no need for the language. But if they were born there or both their parents were, they likely speak it. But modern French and German immigrants are almost non-existent in the U. S. The Cajuns and Acadians still speak French, but their numbers are small.
Those languages don't have the sort of cultural significance in the US that Spanish does. Spanish is pretty much EVERYWHERE.
What if your great great grandparents spoke the language but moved to the states and learned English and passed it on generation after generation.
That's rare. Usually if the parents don't teach their kids it disappears. What language specifically are you talking about?
I think Spanish survived, because parts of the US were colonized by Spain for a long time and their descendents never left
I swear to God my dad's family is Hispanic and they didn't pass on the language. I think a lot of people are bias on it. That's why they think normally Hispanic people know Spanish.
Since my family not doing their job by passing the language on makes me less Hispanic? I heard it all now that is crazy.
Hispanic from where?
Puerto Rico and mexico
I guess they expected me to learn it on my own. Why don't you go write them and asked them why they didn't passed on the Spanish language? My answer is because they are lazy to speak both.
And you don't know Spanish?
Yeah, that's weird, honestly.
Gimme their e-mail address and I will
You shouldn't get offended though when people automatically assume that you speak it
I don't know why I gotta prove myself when I'm telling the truth.
What you lack in Hispanic language, you certainly make up for in temperament.
I guess I don't worry about it because I live in America in the states not really a need for be to speak it. I just find it annoying that has to be proof that you are Hispanic. Hispanics who live in America they have to learn how to speak English too. So I don't see what the big deal is I think people just want to be judgmental and bias.
Yeah. You aren't wrong.

So I'm going to assume you are a non speaking Hispanic woman 😶
But to these people on here since I don't speak Spanish than I'm not Hispanic but my ancestors were Hispanic because they came from Latin America and spoken Spanish but once they set foot on American land and learned English and passed it on here in the states of America the rest of us is white. That makes a ton of sense 🙄
Well it surely doesn't work like that, you have Hispanic blood but born in the states, which makes you Hispanic American, just cause you are in the US and don't speak Spanish doesn't erase your whole family tree, your kids will be part Hispanic, your kids kids etc, you seem to be aware of this already tho, why you let the ignorance and idiocy of others annoy You, just cause they are missing brain cells doesn't mean you should get angry about the words their low celled brains generate 🤣
Thank you
