Why does Israel have strict gun laws for private citizens?

During all the atrocities that happened in the past few days in Israel I noticed something. All of the innocent civilians who were attacked, raped, kidnapped and murdered by Hamas terrorists were virtually defenseless.

I know the IDF immediately retaliated and fought back as quickly as possible. But obviously it was impossible to respond in time to protect the innocent civilians the terrorists harmed, raped, kidnapped and murdered. However it appears that every civilian who was harmed by Hamas terrorist were unarmed and completely defenseless.

I realize these terrorist militants have full automatic rifles and at best the civilians might have shotguns or semi auto rifles/pistols. But that’s better than nothing.

I personally rather go out fighting if someone broke into my house trying to kill me and my family. Even if only one terrorist gets killed by civilian self defense fire for every 10 civilians who die it’s better than being lambs to the slaughter. I realize these terrorists are brainwashed into thinking they are doing “God’s work” but still I bet a few would hesitate entering areas were they know some civilians are armed.

But why the hell does Israel of all places have strict private gun ownership laws when there is nothing but you and a 10ft wall (that got breached) filled with people who want to kill you, your kids and your women regardless if you are in the military or not?

I’m not just talking about the supernova concert masacre either. I am talking about all the innocent civilians who were attacked directly in their homes in the surrounding villages.

From all the videos I have seen they looked completely defenseless which is no surprise because only 2% of Israeli’s civilian population owns guns which is insane all considered.

Yep. But I also saw the victims in local neighborhoods appeared near defenseless. It’s because Israeli has strict gun laws for private citizens which is completely ridiculous and asinine.

Israel has a massive reserve draft army, everyone with military training should have an M4, M16, Gali, FAL, Travor or something in their home.

That’s true. But still I didn’t or hear of any reports of armed civilians being able to fight back. An off duty army reservist fought back bare handed and died by a grenade explosion.

That’s not saying everybody who owns always carries. My guns are in a biometric safe. Even thought I got a concealed carry permit I rarely pack heat unless I need to go somewhere sketch (which is rare). So this would only work if someone busted into my house. But still I rather have it and never need it then vice versa.

Where I live I can open carry. I used to live in a city with strict gun laws. After being forced to shoot two intruders I was very nearly tried for it and a lawsuit from those I shot, j won but it was expensive. I decided to hell with this city and moved.

Wow. Wow. I am glad you were able to defend yourself. I really hope to never be in that situation but if I am want to have a means to defend myself.

Fortunately I live in a very safe neighborhood. But given it’s known as “safe” it sometimes the wrong people the wrong ideas. And the neighborhoods I live close to have been steadily going downhill in the last few years. The crap always seems to spill over.

But those two morons who broke into your place. Did they actually cross the threshold (go past the door?). My state has the castle doctrine which means lethal force is justified when somebody crosses the threshold to your residence. But you can’t legally shoot someone who is trying to steal your car or threatening you from your lawn.

They did but often the law is subjective rather than clear cut. They tried to say they were backing away, fortunately for me they had priors and dna linked them to quite a few home invasions one of which involved sexual assault and another where an old guy was beaten so badly he died. The fact that they were was a chance I was going to be prosecuted is crazy. I used the security six revolver my father gave me, it was a good gun, I never got it back.

Wow. It’s disgusting that the intruders were even able to file a case in the first place.

I was warned about that crap in my concealed carry class. They even sell special insurance for those kind of lawsuits.

But if you break into someone’s house uninvited that should be a no brainer.

What the hell are you talking about? Most settlers & a lot of Israelis are armed to the teeth. Just because those at that concert weren’t, doesn’t mean shit.

Only 2 percent of Israeli private citizens own guns. You can’t just walk into a local gun store and buy a weapon in Israel. You have to PROVE you need it for something. That inconvenience made many citizens forego buying a gun.

The IDF is armed to the teeth (and for good reason) but Hamas proudly kills indiscriminately. Most of the carnage videos we have seen were taken and propagated by HAMAS not local which is beyond heinous.
