War is not about feelings or caring. The objective of war is to kill the enemy or weaken them enough that they are forced to submit. A countries society and culture determines how they go about war. Israel feels like Hamas has forced its hand. They obviously prefer to not have civilian casualties but Hamas is using citizens as meat shields to make Israel look bad. Hamas is not allowing citizens to evacuate for this reason.

There's a lot the US and the rest of the world will look the other way on until the hostages are released. It was a strategic mistake to take them.
