I believe it’s a status thing. People who are making way less than 100k/year look at the 100k/year achievement as a status symbol. Meanwhile, many people who are already making 100k/year aspire reach 7 figures a year. And the 7-figure earners I know aspire to reach that 100M/year mark. I personally aspire to get to 8-figures a year. But, I would not complain if I ever got to 100M/year.
