In my first job, a colleague celebrated 25 years with the company. He got, drum roll... £100. That was probably the day I decided not to stay with that company. (It was less than a week's pay for a student during their summer vacation, even then.)
I wasn't too happy with their declared payment structure where they had published pay ranges for various grades, but quietly gave some people, say, grade "4.99", which paid over the "top" amount for a grade 4. Even though I was one of those people, it felt dishonest.
the problem is those bonuses don't go to retention anymore. they go to supervisors and management
It isn't what's wrong with the economy but definitely it contributes to income inequality.
CEOs get retention bonuses. They shouldn't - they shouldn't earn as much as they do, either. That money should be redistributed to increase wages across more employees.
The problem is you shouldn't need bonuses to start or stay at a job. You should have decent fucking pay so that bonuses are just bonuses, not deal makers or breakers.

When labor is cheap they don't have to worry about it. Always someone who needs the money just crossed the boarder.
Don't you get more vacation as a result of staying with a company?
Perhaps not? So you’d stupidly stay at a company that never increased your vacation?
Your own dickless what?
