Why can’t we keep checkers?

The checker situation at work everyone whose been hired has been a disaster and the people who are genuinely good are leaving, there are a few who I believe if they were given a chance they would have done fine but management just seems to dispose of people easily.

People are working long overtime hours others are being cut down to nothing it’s one extreme or the other when it comes to hours. One lady was crazy. Another lady didn’t know at all what she was doing just kept making mistakes. While another was extremely rude to customers and employees. Then we hired a dude who just came in one day and never came back into work. We had another lady who was obviously a crack addict.

Long story short. It’s the same old story. They hire someone. They either get fired or quit.

Isn't it obvious? The pay is too low. If they paid $100/hr they could have their pick of people. Somewhere between what is offered and $100/hr is what they need to pay to retain checkers.

That’s not realistic for a business to make any money. You know especially a mom and pop grocery store chain isn’t going to have the money to be paying 100 dollars a hour for people 9 hours a day.

Even managers aren’t being paid 100 dollars a hour

It’s not that they aren’t being paid decently. I would say between 15-20 bucks a hour. Compared to 7.25

Another problem is that they never stop complaining about the hours. It’s always too many or too few

There's a wage they could offer that would attract the people they want. The pay they are offering isn't competitive. The people they want have other options and they are taking them.

Hiring good people is just about the most important things that a manager can do. I think they need to find new managers.

That can be true but it’s also the hiring pool is really bottom of barrel

The company is not realistic in offering salary and benefits for the position.
