A basic tenet of Christianity is "thou shalt not kill" but as history shows we're very good at finding clauses to get around one of its most important commands. Whether it's burning witches or machine gunning down soldiers in wars by the millions the church has found a way of convincing people it's ok because God's on their side.

It's not hard to imagine some far right religious group claim the worlds problems are due to gods anger at certain groups and only their sacrifice will bring gas prices down. Would people go for it? Well history has shown people to be idiots so yes.
