Anyone can register for a political party and there is a primary process so these 5 Democrats 1) registered as Democrats and 2) won their primaries and the general election for their offices. The DNC doesn't rule over this...

Am I surprised about their position? No, not at all. Many Democrats are not fond of abortion just as many conservatives are pro-choice. There's no cookie-cutter voter and, at "48", you should know that.

These DFLA members likely espouse the "the consistent life ethic". Actress Patricia Heaton is a famous who espouses the consistent life ethic. Many people do - both Democrats and Republicans. A lot of devout Catholics espouse the consistent life ethic.

Because that is the correct word to use; these people are not candidates, they were already elected to office.

As to their candidacy before having been elected, I am not exactly sure what you mean although I think you meant DNC when you wrote "democratic convention" since the DNC is the umbrella organization for Democrats. As I explained earlier, the DNC doesn't rule over this although they might have generations ago before there were primaries and caucuses. Had you asked this question, say, 90 years ago, your question would have made more sense.
