Trending & News Do you believe a poor person can work their way up from poor to wealthy if they try hard enough?

Yes. I do. There are lots of poor people who were poor and then made millions in their life. Look at Vivek Ramaswamy. From a poor early life to almost a billionaire.
@wolfcat87 Thank you for the MHO
it does happen with a few... but they're not poor of mind nor spirit...

I believe it’s possible to accomplish that in that manner, however I don’t think simply not trying hard is what stands in the way of getting there. I think if every poor person worked really hard, the vast majority would still remain poor. It’s just not that simple of an equation. More variables than are even worth detailing in an informal discussion are in play, with anything, and that includes economic mobility.
Yes definitely.
Make sure you build a business you can sell, otherwise, you're just working another job, but with much longer hours.
This is a very poorly written book but it does tell how to do this.

Here is a free pdf copy of the book. The guy who wrote the book isn't selling anything so all the information you need is in there.
Also there is a very good free podcast on this subject.

Good luck!
Can they? sure.
Whats the most common way people get rich? Their parents die. I am one of those people. I got $640 profit of intrest for getting a bank account the first month. Doing nothing. While it would take me a year of going hungry of saving full-time at minimum wage to profit as much.
It's like a snowball rolling down a hill. Sometime it takes dozens of generations to get going or just one it becomes a cartoon amout of money but you got to start with a good amount first.
Can it happen?
Yes.
Is it likely to happen?
No, even if they "work hard enough".
Google "ovarian lottery".
This article explains it rather well.

"If man can create it and believe it, he can achieve it."
Quote i saw recently today so yeah :D
Very rarely. I grew up in a middle class family with decent connections. I am currently the wealthiest person in my family as a result of familial pressure and my own hard work. I would not have been able to do it solo and without the people I met along the journey my life would have been very different.
I believe that every person can make good decisions.
not in a joe biden economy... the new government will just squash all of that.
No, I don't think so. Some people work their entire lives and still they don't have the minimum they need to survive. Besides, most people in the world aren't rich.
Yes, but it's not something I aspire to be. I'd rather be known for an impact I made that changed lives for the better than how much money I make doing it.
Yes, but it takes more than working hard. That is important, but working on the right stuff matters more.
Not with out significant outsider help no... there's just too much trial and error through out the course of one's life.. poverty has hooks... n chains walls n barriers.. n one obstical is enough to steer you in the wrong direction forever.
The hell yeah just keep working hard on your goal
Yes hard work and smart work. The current world appreciates a blend of both
Yes, if they burn out all of their good years doing so. But that's not how you do it. Money is spiritual and there are also covenants and heritage we have that most have no idea about.
Smarter rather than hard but I know a few who did similar
Yes, but maybe you won't see it too much if things keep going the way they are going.
That depends on sooo many factors... in general, for the majority, I have to say no.
Yes, life is what you make of it.
It's possible, but the chances are probably less the one in a million. Most people work hard their whole life and remain dirt poor.
Long term, no. You become wealthy through investments and hope God blesses your investments.
Yeah I know a few
Hard enough? No!
Smart enough? Maybe.
Very unlikely.
If you’re lucky
Yes.
Yes I believe
Nope.
Why are you so into money
That’s horrible horrible, horrible, horrible in so many ways
Materialistic doesn’t get you far in life
Ha ha ha, who brainwashed you? I've already gotten very far in life. Successful, happily married, raised wonderful, happy, and accomplished children, educated, and very well rounded. There's very little I have not done that I wanted to do, and there's not much I can't do if I want to.
Do not pretend to know me. I have lived a very frugal life for most of my life on this earth and worked hard for what I have. If I want to enjoy the fruits of my labor and focus on a new passion, you have no place in my life to tell me I can't. If I want to focus on learning about finance, getting a new high score in this game called life, then what does it have to do with you?
No one is stopping you from being as poor as you want. So, what inside you makes you feel so insecure that you feel the need to act like this? Where have you gotten in life with such a negative and judgmental outlook of the happiness and passions of complete strangers? In my experience, misery loves company... Go be passionless if you want, but stop crying about the happiness of others. Gross
I don’t believe you and I don’t feel insecure I don’t have to brag or boast but you’re overdoing it like somethings fishy
You are a very depressing and pessimistic little man... Did I ask you to believe me? No. Now, go get a life and stop crying under my posts. Stop cowering behind anonymous posts while trying to claim others are insecure while crying about what makes them happy, it's really sad. Talk about a bad joke. You know how ugly your behavior is. You knew before you even pressed send. That's why you're too ashamed to even take ownership of your own words. Go look in a mirror and work on yourself. Do better.
You have no idea about me about anything you’re just making up make-believe stories trying to battle me I just don’t like people acting the way you act. It’s very materialistic, very shallow and it’s extremely fishy the way you carry on every day about this.
First, am I following your posts trying to cause trouble and making uneducated statements about a stranger based on nothing but ignorant assumptions? No, that's what YOU are doing. Oh, the hypocrisy. Am I hiding behind "anonymous" because I'm so ashamed of my own behavior? Nope, that's YOU again. The only one hiding anything here is you. What a gross troll. Some of us aren't like people like you. Bye.
I have my reasons for being blue anonymous there’s certain things that I cannot risk
I’m a moderator
How am I trolling? I never swore at you or name called you. I just wanna give you a piece of advice be
A mature woman don’t boast or talk about money it doesn’t look good.
And on my other question,
"Don’t do this you’re making yourself look real bad. This is the second question now"
A moderator doesn't need to go anonymous to have a healthy, non sexual conversation. But, you did not even attempt to discuss the topic and proceeded to go after me for talking about finance. So, you know you're behaving badly.
I don’t think you know what Bullying really is you are completely exaggerating, stretching the truth and that’s not true at all on everything, you said you’re the one that’s telling me that I’m a little man and other stuff and you don’t call that being rude? I just don’t feel that you should be constantly talking about money and do you own a house and how much money do you have? This has nothing to do with my life or your life or anybody’s life I just don’t feel that you should be talking about this kind of thing. It sets a bad example.
We are really not
Supposed to
debate where it’s going to get into an argument that’s why I’m blue anonymous but I’m not arguing with you
But I can see you’re not keeping it as a simple debate you’re pushing the envelope
That’s why I’m an anonymous
You never tried to debate anything and began insulting me. Yes, I was rude back to a man who was rude to me. Imagine that. You lead by example. You get what you give in this world, and speaking to you like an adult did nothing but make you ruder. I clearly attempted to multiple times, and you jumped to multiple negative comments. Take responsibility for your own actions.
bullying - seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce
You insulted me many times and attempted to use insults to push me to change what makes me happy to talk about. That's pretty awful behavior. Get your own passions and happiness instead of trying to take away the happiness and passions of others.
It's not happening. I enjoy discussing finance. You're the only one here who does not. So, you are welcome to not discuss it or post under my discussions in the future since you said nothing on topic at all and chose to behave badly. No one made you come here and try to start stuff.
Did you really just say money, houses, and finance have nothing to do with my life or anyone's life? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. That's a L I E. Imagine that from the person who keeps projecting and trying to call me a liar when I've been open and upfront with everyone. Projection is an ugly thing, buddy. You have issues with money. The rest of us don't have YOUR issues. Keep your issues to yourself instead of trying to drag others down with you. Read the room. Like I said, misery loves company and I have no interest in joining you.
You’re totally exaggerating what did I say
Exactly to insult you I’m just not gonna answer your questions anymore because you’re taking this way overboard. You are extremely thin skinned instead of listening your attacking me, accusing me of being a bullying, which is not true.
