What would a civil war in the US look like?

In your opinion. What does a civil war in the US look like? I’m not so interested in “well when the Trumpers are in power they will put everyone in camps.” Or “when the Libs take over they will burn the Constitution.” I’m more interested in what a civil war will look like in general. Who will be the battling factions? What kind of fighting will there be? Where will this occur in the country? What will be the effect globally. What will be the effect in your region of the country. What will life look like going forward? I’m interested in seeing what people will say. I’ll share my opinion later on.

To answer that I'd have to ask what I would do and assume others would try and follow a similar path.

The first thing I'd do is negotiate access to professional military equipment. Who gets that has a clear advantage so I'd expect both sides to be trying to make deals.

America already has various militia and lone wolves who've long dreamed of civil war and will want to make a name for themselves. If they attack me I would simply execute their families and a percentage of their town to discourage further attacks by other groups. Remember it's much easier to trace people now and once I identify you I can crucify your kids.

I'd take control of the hospitals and destroy those who resist to deny the enemy the ability to patch up their wounded. I'd also order my troops to maim rather than kill where possible as injured troops tie up more resources than dead ones and are a more visible morale crusher.

Cities are Americas weak point. They need to bring in huge amounts of food daily. I'd destroy all roads, bridges, etc into them and lay siege. I'd definitely want to secure the ports for myself. Because America went down the mega farm route it's worth destroying them too, blow up a few combine harvesters and they starve.

I'd want control of the internet and other communication systems. I'd bribe the right people to join me and exterminate those who don't. Expect internet companies and the like to be targeted early on.

I'd definitely recruit the gays. After a battle I'd send them in to bugger the wounded and captured as punishment for resisting me.
