How will this civil war manifest itself? Not sure
With the seemingly increasing division within the US, do you think a civil war will occur? What would this look like exactly?
How will this civil war manifest itself? Not sure
The United States is quite divided, but a little historical perspective helps.
In truth, we've been here before. In the 1960s and 70s, we had an era of race riots, a low intensity war, campus radicalism, assassinations, populism, "do your own thing," and political extremism. One need only mention Kent State, the SLA, the Black Panthers, the Kennedy assassinations, and the Martin Luther King assassination, Charles Manson or the year 1968 to be reminded of the recent past.
Then there was the small matter of the real civil war. Four years of war fought to the nth degree. The result was over 650,000 Americans, killed at each other's hands. That is an ocean of blood that Americans did not even match in either world war, indeed in both world wars combined.
Speaking of which, there was the country during World War I. Aside from an unprecedented curtailment of civil liberties by the government, as Americans watched warily for German spies, there were cases of mobs tarring and feathering those they thought guilty of siding with the enemy.
Even in World War II, the so-called good war, when Americans were united by Pearl Harbor, there was bloodiest race riot in American history in 1943. Also in 1943, the United States lost more hours of work to strikes and other labor unrest - some of which became violent - than in any other year in American history. This, when the nation was rallying to defeat the Axis powers.
That is not to say that these are not difficult times. Certainly the effects of technology may be magnifying some of the splintering forces in the culture. That technology makes every event seem larger and unprecedented because we just don't read or hear about them, but see them. Further, the technology reinforces a ethic of instant gratification and puts every person in their own mental universe.
This has created a cultural environment of mutual incomprehension, heightened emotionalism and the discounting of reason over feeling. The latter being a problem in the best of times, but in the current context it is arguable that the nation has conferred upon itself more rights than it can handle.
As Burke said, "Men have no right to that which is not reasonable." A difficult argument to make in a culture that is ardent about rights, but no so much about responsibilities.
Still, as Adam Smith said, "There is much ruin in a nation." These things come and go. The tumult of the 60s and 70s gave us the relative social peace of the 80s and 90s. The United States has serious divisions and they are real, but such divisions come and go. They intensify and subside. It happened before and it will happen again.
Real divides that need to be addressed by prudent men and women of good faith, but not unique and certainly there has been worse - and better. America has been here before and as Rudyard Kipling wrote, "If you can keep your head about you when others are losing theirs, then you will be a man, my son."
As true of nations as it is of individuals.
This is how the left talks online...
They think 100 misfits from the city are enough to take out rural towns within 50 miles of cities... They see a small town on the map of 2,000 or 5,000 people and think 100 ANTIFA/BLM can take that out no problem... Clearly they are extremely outnumbered even at 100 to 2,000. They think people in the country will wait idly for police to arrive when in reality the sheriff will deputize the entire county to just explain away a pile of dead bodies. Worse yet they think that is all that is out there, not realizing that the city limits are very small for the municipality (because country people like limited government) and the large majority of the people in the area with farms live in unincorporated parts of the county just outside the city limits. Where there aren't people with lots of guns, there bears, panthers, wild hogs, coyotes, alligators, bobcats, cottonmouths, pygmy rattlers, dimondbacks, copperheads, coral snakes, etc. Where there are people, there are well trained guard dogs and hunting dogs, barbed wire fences, surveillance systems, etc. These are people that climb up in a tree stand at 4 AM in the morning and sit up their all day in camouflage just waiting for something to walk into their kill box to shoot at because it's fun. People that are well seasoned marksman that have been shooting since they could walk. They have shooting ranges in their backyards and they train every week religiously. People that are veterans of war. People that know the terrain. People that have night vision and thermal optics, 15-20 guns per household, stock piles of ammo, plate carriers, spot lights, drones, ghillie suits, thermal camouflage, explosives, off road trucks, dirt bikes, atvs, air boats, heavy equipment that can blockaded roads, build fortifications, etc. not to mention the government surplus equipment... My farm is outside of a small town... If you looked up the population, you'd say nobody is out there, but there 90,000 registered shooters at my gun range. Clearly the left has no clue what they are flirting with...
I think it is more likely to get extremists from both sides doing violent protests... right now I expect the pro-choice side to eventually become very destructive and violent.
It is usually the side that wants change that gets more violent, those that are happy with things, do not.
In order to have a true civil war, state governments would need to decided to leave the union or at least ignore it... maybe not leave but decide not to enforce any federal laws and ignore them all within their own border.
Possibly even order state law enforcement to arrest federal officers, which could lead to shoot outs and violence.
If enough states did leave, like in the civil war... then a good chunk of the federal army would defect to states... and it won't be people lining up and shooting the other side, it would be constant hit and run terror attacks.
It wouldn't take much to cut supply lines, such as power and roads from Rural American into cities and it wouldn't take long for the big cities to run out of food and people start to starve to death.
I would love to see mountains of far left commie corpses piled up, the stench would be beautiful also
I hope not. It's escalated into small scale violence, but I doubt people will go into a full on WAR unless prompted by something severe.
As an independent, I would have to say...
My money would be on the conservatives lol
the left will get thrown in a meat grinder they stand no chance,

I think if we just build more safe rooms and give them some free hot chocolate, everything will be okay.
You forgot the edibles🤣
@SaoirseS The agitated snowflakes on the left, the same SWINE - Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything - that Al Capp parodied sixty years ago.

Keep them dumb and happy so easier to control
@SaoirseS Although I am conservative, and I agreed with most of Trump's agenda, he lost style points every time he opened his mouth. And I think that some conservatives are ready to bury their heads in the sane on environmental issues. But the leftists and woke culture has gone in such an absurd direction that I don't know why anyone wold follow them. What I want most is civil discourse, polite disagreements, and everyone playing by the rules to which we previously agreed.
@OlderAndWiser. I want and greatly appreciate civil discourse as well, but it's tough to find anywhere when it comes to politics and/or religion. People tell me I have to pick a side, but I really don't. Bipolar politics in the US have turned into "if you're not for me, you're against me."
@OlderAndWiser. I've reached a point where I disregard political affiliation and look at the candidates. Locally, we have both horrible Republicans and horrible Democrats, but Kansas is not entirely red like everyone thinks. Most people I know locally are pretty balanced and aren't automatically against the opposition parties. Then there are the few... lol
To answer this question you have to look at how the U. S. is build institutionally, culturally, and geographically.
Unfortunately we are coming out of a time of great cultural and political homogeneity peaking in the 1950s.
Since then we have been getting more and more ethically, culturally, and politically diverse but we still have the laws and institutions that were created around that period which invest an enormous amount of power in the Federal Government and specifically the presidency.
Hence why elections for those offices are soo high stakes, most things are on the line including the U. S. Supreme court who's unchecked nature of absolute oligarchical power over everything makes it the highest stakes position possible to have.
Unfortunately with greater diversity the compromises that can be offered become less and less tolerable with each year, so yes sooner or later there will be a point where the losing side simply says no and takes up arms.
Based upon theses factors I would say a armed conflict thou possible, is not necessarily likely because we still have some really good options as getting decentralization without firing a shot.
It’s quite a possibility in all honesty. It seems that both ends of the political spectrum arw becoming more extreme in their beliefs. The right wing is delusional, believing the election was a fraud, that Trump is some sort of God, that every body in this country is treated equally (Or acknowledging that they aren’t and not caring). At the same time, Biden is pretty fucking stupid, liberals are starting to villainify straight whites. Both parties are pretty stupid right now. They can’t acknowledge their own faults.
You can support minority rights and social justice causes without hating white people. Bringing them up doesn’t have to include tearing white people down.
Jan 6 was a violent insurrection. A cop was crushed between doors, there were armed protestors, one even had a pistol with hollows admitting his goal was to kill Peloski. They were chanting to hang Mike Pence. Police retreated to a more defendable position. They didn’t “let them in”.
Biden got good intentions but he’s too old and stupid.
I think we are seeing it... but if you mean civil war like two massive armies fighting along a battle front with battle lines, trenches tanks and guns... then no I don't think so.
But if the January 6th capital riot didn't get the people in governments attention... well I think the system is failing. Left or Right none of them are really doing anything for working class people. The vast majority are just working class people not trying to pick sides, and just trying to get by some how some way... neither party truly gives a shit about them and they know it.
Unlikely. People are just too lazy. Maybe if the red states get redder and the blue states get bluer, eventually, it will make sense to split up as a country. And after the red country (confederacy) discovers none of their problems are solved by doing that, yet all of the Union's problems were solved by the confederacy leaving, then the confederates will try to invade the union to prove they were right.
But apart from that specific sequence of events the only likely possibility is more isolated right wing terrorism that isn't organized beyond the size of a platoon, which no one will take as act of war (though, perhaps we should).
I think there will be a "divorce" in less than 30 years. As disappointments like the four SCOTUS rulings last week accumulate, the Left, such as AntiFA (Anti first Amendment) and BLM (Buy Luxury Mansions) will become increasingly violent like the summer of 2020. But this time, the Right Side will respond with deadly force (AKA Amendment 2) and will begin culling them out. A few.556's or.762's through the heads of these miscreants will quickly make them all see Jesus. When that happens, they will be unable to defend themselves.
Perhaps it's time to get this violent, lying troll kicked off g@g?
@I_Can_Help Naah. EmbraceThePain should stay. He's only expressing an opinion.
Hell no. There's absolutely no reason for violence. Let the "Handmaid's Tale" states form their own country, or countries. Here's what I imagine it would look like.
From the South, The Carolina's, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, West Virginia, possibly Kansas.
From the Midwest, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Montana
Mountain region, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado
That's 22, possibly 23 states. Who cares about Alaska or Hawaii!
FACT: 12 of those states listed are in the Top 20 states that receive more money BACK from the Federal government than they give in taxes. So let them go. There's no need for blood shed. It's almost congruent with red vs blue states.
The division is becoming more toxic. Under HW, Clinton, W, and Obama the division was better. There were people that disagreed with each other, but it was a difference of opinion, not outright hatred. However, Trump never differentiated between disagreements and enmity. Because of this the viewpoint of many people is "with me or against me". It doesn't have to be and, if we have a better and less hostile face of the Republican party, we can ensure that we can go back to disagreements as opposed to enmity.
Should be me. I have been asking civil war questions here for two years. GaG takes most of them down , but I was first to ask them.
A depression which is going to happen could cause one.
A world war with Russia , could cause one since half of America is for Russia
If Democrats stack court to make Abortion federal law making it legal could start a civil war.
Gun confiscation could cause a civil war
If Democrats cheat Trump again , there will probably be a civil war.
Was actually talking about this with a coworker last week. Civil War seems likely down the line, but it wouldn't be like the first one. It will be driven more by activism and extremists from both sides attack each other over key points in the forms of bombings, execution with literal guillotines, etc..
Forget the Civil War. I just want the freakin' divorce. Avoid all the shootin' stuff and let's go our own ways. The left completely detests the right, and the right has absolutely nothing in common with the left, other than the patch if dirt we both occupy.
Split the country and avoid all the useless bloodshed - unless that's what the left insists on. Believe me, it would be a major bloodbath, since a vast majority of right wingers are gun owners.
Another civil war is probably likely. The right wingers have all their guns and would largely win the war. That's why it's important for Democrats to try to see some reason in basic gun rights and self-defense so that we can defend ourselves against the right wingers. They are and will be the aggressors we should worry about.
The civil war has already begun. Only dummies can’t see it. War starts long before the physical violence. If any one nation was doing to the US any of the things the democripps and rebloodlicans have been doing to each other for the last two decades, we’d have launched an offensive by now. Fortunately most of us are sane, rational and hopeful. The violence will worsen as more people are radicalized.
Warriors unlikely to occur because quite frankly Americans are lazy and we’d rather not go out and kill each other I think what you will see happen is privileges moved to the states that share their values and continue to get polarized you’ll blue states like California and you’ll have red states like Texas and the states will just stop talking to each other
oh it's coming the democrat traitors best get some body armor on, because it's going to get revved up, we're taking it to the battlefield next, a kamala harris presidential victory will for sure, ignite the Second American Civil War, the democrat enemies of the state have no idea what's going to hit them, judgment day is coming y'all, pelosi, schumer, you will be punished, your antifa goons won't do any good against the battle hardened members of the great patriot army
The Dems have been quite incompetent.
@WraithRogue04 which is why they need to be removed for good
Could I ask you for some advice?
DM me if its okay?
The civil war won't start until they come for civil rights and push for segregation.
Until then you violate women, or gays, etc.
White women aren't gonna turn on their men. They'll just comply and tell about it.
The gay white men gonna have to fight the straight white men for the country.
So it’s just an attrition game to you then? Nobody else matters to you but white men? That seems a bit racist.
we are curently in a cold civil war, but the Republicans are winning, just like the last civil war. these Supreme court rulings the lefties are hating are returning the power to the States and the People. the Left will have to stay in their Hell hole states of Cali and New York and leave everyome else alone soon enough. then everyone will get along just fine.
I doubt it. And if there was it would likely start a global conflict. If Syria and Lydia can't have a civil war without global intervention... imagine if it was the most powerful and influence country in the world. Shit it might be the only time the Mexican military would leave Mexico
Not really. Do you imagine how the divided two countries would look like? Democrats would be split to two parts: East (New York and everything in New England) and West (California, Oregon and Washington). Do you imagine running such a country? It would be totally inconvenient.
It’s already been going in for some time now, but I doubt you’ll see it turn into warfare as you imagine it.
I don’t really imagine it that way.
@nightdrot sums it up well. I’ve reached a point where all I want is to take care of my family, my business, my clients, my community, enjoy what I work for and be left the hell alone.
We won't see warfare but --IMO-- i do think we will see more right wing terrorist violence increasing and the cops not doing much to stop or prevent it.
@Still-alive
We’ve already seen a lot of that, but on the left-side of politics.
nope incorrect. there's far farrr more far right violence...
acleddata.com/.../#s14
“To answer those questions, we downloaded the ACLED data set and had a look for ourselves. The ACLED team cataloged a total of 11,541 civil-society incidents from May 24 through Aug. 29. ACLED’s event coding is far from perfect. It is reliant upon media reports, which carries with it its own obscuring bias; it does not appear to account for property destruction fully; and it may omit incidents of public menacing, threats, and intimidation.
For example, I was personally present to witness the violent threats in the streets of Washington toward attendees of President Trump’s convention address. For that date, ACLED lists three “peaceful protests” and one “protest with intervention.” The ACLED data set is, therefore, charitable toward anyone who, from May to August, wished to communicate that he or she might visit harm upon others.”
-Texas Public Policy foundation
“should be wary of ACLED's data because of uneven quality- control issues which can result in biased…”
-jstor. org
Ahh a conservative think tank... well i guess we should just accept their word on the issue... no clear bias there right?
jstor. org? How about this? Lol
I literally googled “ACLED bias” and found all sorts of pieces/articles man.
Come on
Dude was already done before it got to go outside.
🫡👌
it's ok im done already.
yeah lol the moment you quoted that far right think tank you were done here.
Well, apparently were done the minute you posted ACLED lol.
yup pretty much
Fantastic, glad we finally agreed on something.
I think that is what most people on both sides of the aisle want for themselves.
