Following the herd is for people who can't think for themselves. Consensus can be manufactured in order to manipulate opinion.

Too many people listen only to opinions they agree with and surround themselves with like-minded thinkers. Those people never progress.

They do understand because everyone was like this at some point - thats kind of the defining characteristic of adolescence. And so people tend to think grown men who are still doing that are simply maturing slower and when they do eventually grow up they will be resentfuf if no one warned them.

I believe that the concept is easily understandable to most people. Many might just get hung up on how they cannot relate to it. And they might, for whatever reason, view it in a hierarchical sense, assuming their own perspective as the superior one. Driven by emotions. It's what happens when critical thought isn't at the helm. And that leads to issues in self-extrapolation. And that is a hard one to teach.

Most people have always followed the herd and some or a good amount have always done it without wanting to (cause most other people do it, what would other people think, etc.)

Being not of the herd bc u feel compelled to be in opposition to all others isn't a feasible remedy to be a diffraction of the society at large. Only being a leader in b terms of navigating your life around , under , over and through the hurdles of are u really above the rest who know not what they do and be steeple instead.
