You’re right, many religions and philosophies do like to hold humans in a higher regard than animals on average. A lot of it has to do with the ability to communicate, and when that ability and connection is established we can see that a lot of animals are also indeed thinking creatures. Dogs, cats, parrots, elephants, octopi, even tarantulas are all capable of thought to some degree. The difference is the structure of morals and how it’s applies to our lives. Most animals live based on survival, and so do most humans. In fact, we’re so good at living for survival that we became the producers of most foods that we eat, we became masters of resource gathering and guarding to the point we built our entire society around it. There aren’t many species aside from humans that I know of that have farming habits alongside livestock care. Most animals have one or the other but rarely both, and they don’t keep it all in one place as they usually just all travel together or just stay in that one place. We don’t even think about survival now in terms of hunting and gathering but rather finding work so we can afford to take home the products of hunting and gathering done by other humans. We think of survival often in terms of currency, when most animals trade based on barter systems. As humans have dominated this survival game, we also rarely have to contemplate eating another human to survive (there’s a whole branch of psychology dedicated to cannibalism and the trauma of it) meanwhile there are plenty of animals that wouldn’t think twice about killing and eating another one of their species if it guaranteed their survival.


And once humans placed themselves at the top of the food chain, we started trying to bring ourselves higher than our animal instincts, hence the introduction and imposition of morals. We understand right and wrong, good and bad, and how that relates to us. Thousands of years ago, religion was a means of giving our animal brains comfort in our inevitable mortality because we loved being alive so much that being dead became a terrifying prospect, it was also a means of establishing control by saying bad morals would lead to an eternity of damnation. Food created society, our minds created morals, and philosophies were made to question those morals and see why we needed to be good people and why we wanted to be accepted as good instead of surviving well selfishly and being bad. Humans are still animals, but we’re also not like any other animals on this planet that we know of. Hell, dolphins could have started an underwater society of their own at the bottom of the ocean for all we know, but that doesn’t change the fact that, in terms of animals, humans currently have no equals in terms of their rapid domination. And if we did, we’d be at war with that other species.

No religion is against people using that as a justification or excuse to act like an animal considering the creator we believe in gave us the intelligence to understand and comprehend the difference and make choices using that capacity of intelligence that was given to us, we are at the top of the animal kingdom but that's cause we were designed to be at the top and the whole reason we are is cause of that capacity to grow in intelligence and cause our limit in intelligence is way higher than all the animals, it basically makes humanity superior to any other living species in the planet, all that intelligence to then go like "tEcHnIcAlLy iM aN aNiMaL sO iM gOnNa gO sHiT iN a bOx aNd hUmP aNy bUtT I sEe" for that you should've been born with a limited brain.

I guess you are implying that people should behave like wild animals and religion is wrong to place limits on what people do? Not 100% clear to me what you mean because "and not a special being with a higher purpose" seems contrary to the statement before it somewhat.

@OddBeMe That's not what I see developing in the western world. I see many people claiming that the most important thing in life is themselves and this leads to society falling apart since society isn't all about the individual. Are ancestors -- who many mock for believing in God -- knew how to make civilizations that lasted thousands of years. I don't expect Western Society to even last another 20 years at the current rate of social decline. But at least you can brag about being smarter than our ancestors.

@OddBeMe Birth rate is in decline across the west. The culture is dying because those who teach the culture to their young will die out. We see rising crime rates. Rising rates in autism and mental illnesses across the board. It matches what happened to the mice in the Mouse Utopia experiment as I mention in my MyTake on the Zombie Apocalypse. The end result is societal collapse.

i am okay being an animal in the sense i am a free one. i find many humans avoidable. if necessity means i must i will interact with them, but i don't like stupid people
