For my one of my personal carry sidearms, I value my Brazilian Taurus stainless steel Beretta variants with a threaded compensated barrel and Pachmyer rubber wraparound grip and an aftermarket laser designator.
I LOVE the double action, magazine capacity and sheer quality-per-dollar of it.
The aftermarket Trapper gun springs guarantee absolute ignition both single and double action.
It's a serious sidearm and if circumstances permit, the laser guarantees the Assailant WHERE that first round WILL go. The fewer rounds fired, the less potential 'collateral causalities' need be accounted for.
SOME prefer a larger caliber but with quality JHP ammo (Supervel or equiv.) the subsequent inquiries will only be getting MY 'victim statement'.

I RARELY fire the first shot but am determined to get a vote to fire the final shot~

I cannot give you a 'Yes' or 'No' answer to that.
Comes down to the time you put in to train with any hand gun, the Beretta 92FS is a fine pistol but it might not suit you, you need to find a range/ gun shop with a range, and ask if they have hire pistols, so that you can try a range of pistol and find the one that you have the best accuracy with and feels the most comfortable. in your hand, they are not often the same pistol, then I'd go for the one with the best accuracy and train with it till you are comfortable with it, doing it the other way round is usually harder.
The last time I carried CCW was a few years ago now when I worked in the US, and the only high capacity pistol available was the Browning Hi-Power (13+1) , the trigger needed work, and if you held it wrong you'd end up with 'slide bite' , the only cure back then was lots and lots of range time to get you grip right every-time, I'd love one of the new ones today as they engineered that problem out, but there's probably something new to master, and the cost of the new one is steep.

Get along to a decent gun shop range and see if they do try before you buy. As others have said how a weapon feels in your hand, how the recoil is, how you operate it, are you left handed if so then chose one that is more left hand friendly. Above all put rounds down range with it and see how it feels. The other bit about self defence is where you plan to need it for that defence moment. If it’s at home there is a chance it’s at night, early hours, dark or dimly lit, then can you fit a rail mounted light.

I prefer a glock 17 but a lot of ex military swear by the bereta 92f simply because that's what they carried in service and they know the weight, the handling etc like it's an extension of themselves having put much time on the range with it. Its much like guys who served in the military prior to the 80s and 90s swear by the M1911 and the.45 round over the 9mm. Currently probably the best handgun is the m17. Should be a lot of cheap military surplus Beretas on the market soon.

They're good, but usually overpriced for what they are in my opinion, and handguns are something you could ask 50 different well experienced shooters and get probably 25 different answers. Beretta 92FS does a lot of things right and most notably are very accurate out of the box, but the ergonomics and trigger aren't up to snuff with Walther and HK, and I personally prefer Sig over Beretta in regards to older hammer fire models, though they tend to be just as if not more expensive.

A lot will depend on how it fits your hand, it's physical size, where you plan to carry it and what holster you will be using.
Some weapons are too bulky to be concealed comfortably ot at all. So after a while they tend to be left behind which doesn't do you any good and not being able to conceal it can change how it and you are perceived.

I hate the Beretta. The trigger pull is long and heavy. Like by the time the gun actually fires your attacker could close a lot of distance. Hammer pistols are slower then a striker fired pistol.

I tested out a Beretta and couldn't hit the target 10 feet in front of me. Switched to a Sig Sauer and it was night and day. Bullseye after bullseye.

You can mitigate the Beretta's short comings with lots of practice. I'd take a veteran Marine with a Beretta over a newbie with a Sig Sauer as a body guard any day.

Sure. It's a reliable, accurate, single/double action, military/police grade, 9mm. Standard magazines can hold 10-15 rounds. Good for self defense.

Depends on what you are comparing it to and how it feels in your hand. Most 9mm pistols are good for self defense; but you want to go with one that fits your hand size.

You can carry one chambered in a beretta 92fs. It just has to be hammer down. Actuating the hammer is the same difference as going from safe to fire.

Manually cocking the hammer bypasses the double action. It is literally labeled as a double/single action. As in, it is optional depending on how you operate it. But I am sure you know that if you actually trained with this weapon system.

@Pterodon m1911 is good but ultimately its just a step up from a revolver. My Glock 17 for instance has over double the capacity of a 1911, even still triple depending on the magazine.
