Do you agree that capitalism kills the initative of people who provide valuable but less demanded products and forces one to create what is demanded?

An example: you want to survive as a writer. You can't sell if you write about ancient poetry because fewer people are unwilling to real it. But you can survive if you write a book on how to increase your status in the 21st century because more people would be willing to read it. The book on ancient poetry explores deeper and more sophisticated ideas about human life, but it is less valuable on the market.

It does tend to distribute resources in the direction of most demand, but I don't really see us ever getting away from this fundamental problem.

The ancap dream that we can all quit our day jobs and be as poets, writers, painters, rock stars, actors, playwrights, film directors, astronauts, etc, seems like it could only lead to economic collapse. Someone has to be a garbage man, a factory worker, a burger flipper, a cashier, a custodian, truck driver, roofer, construction worker, police officer, and so forth, at least until all such jobs are automated away.

At least capitalism leads people free to choose their own paths in actual practice without being forced and assigned to do certain jobs by a central authority.

Right, but most men with those occupations you mentioned are not capable of being poets, writers, painters etc. I was referring to those who could be talented poets, writers, painters, but give way to capitalism because otherwise they would be homeless.

It's definitely something I wish we had for those who are capable. They might also still be able to connect strongly with a niche market which can still offer as many or more benefits to society as one who connects weakly to a mainstream demographic.

I just don't know any economic system that seems capable of distributing resources appropriately to such hidden talents without a significant risk of going horribly awry.

That has not much to do with capitalism, if there is not a target audience then no one will buy it. It does not matter if communist, socialist etc, if people do not want to buy it, then they will not. If you cannot eat or put food on the table for your family, then it’s pointless writing.

No. I belive that the capitalism is the key of succed and happines in this world then to fall for the other side, communism.
