Opinion on rebel flag?

i grew up in the south i am a biracial man half white and half native American I grew up with the ideal that it is a flag that represents southern American pride what do y'all think

As a black man who grew up in the south that is how I saw it too. All my white friends who flew the flag embraced me as their friend/brother. But I will say that as a kid I had a conversation with a few friends who told me how racist their parents were at home and that opened my eyes to the generational differences in how boomers viewed us and their closeted bigotry.

That being said I have come to feel believe that symbols only carry the strength we give over to them.

I agree. I know a really big black man with a full back tattoo of an eagle grasping the stars and stripes in one hand and the stars and bars in the other. It's only people who have never stepped south of D. C. that are so vehemently opposed to it being "everywhere."

well its been going since 1860 n is symbol of southern heritage n pride
but the issue that it also was linked to slavery n white supremacy

The flag if the Army of Northern Virginia (Stars and Bars) is an historical relic just like the Bavarian Flag which Germans fly proudly today. Because of current racial tensions, I do not fly one but did in the 90's when it was accepted as regional identity (Tennessee). It also represents resistance to government over-reach.

I fly one myself. Well, now that I live in Europe I don’t anymore. But I still keep it tucked away with my personal effects. I have great affection for my old Southern home.

It's a symbol of freedom from the federal government, and we'd all be so much better off if the Confederates were victorious

I guess I just don't understand why it's considered objectively more offensive than the American Flag

We don't need a flag that represents the south and I hope we will never need one to represents an area that is split off from the union.
