Ill answer this question but substitute faith for belief system so I can still answer it. I think thats close enough since both are about fundamental moral views.

For me my belief system and ethics goes first, ultimately I care about what I consider moral, not necessarily the law. Luckily for me there is a lot of overlap for these two so I live in the right kind of society, but require me to do something immoral and I will not do it. My soul is worth more than my life.

Man made boundaries and law can never compete with what God has legislated. Just because people of other faiths lost the authenticity of their scriptures and their nerve to hold onto what was given to them by their respective prophets (peace be upon them all) doesn't mean Muslims will have to follow them.

Without faith, you have country either. As a coward will always be a disbelieving atheist. But a man/woman of faith will turn terrorist and fight against overwhelming odds if needs be. This is why you can barely count on one hand the amount of successful disbelievers. But history is written by those of faith.

I went with "faith" since, while I lack any belief in the supernatural, I do put a lot of faith in virtues. I think that's the closest approximation of "God" to me is the virtues and ethics that guide me. Those trump country for me.

Concerning your update. I can understand why people see it as bad when Muslims and Jews put their faith over the country they live in because in many cases the country´s rules and their faith lead to a contradiction. For instance I´m from a liberal country where situations could happen that lead to problems for Muslims but also some Christians since homeschooling for instance is illegal over here. There are political reasons for that. In my case my faith and the country I´m from have most of the values in common.
