They are probably doing paperwork. Nonetheless. How should police departments be funded? Should they be defunded? Given more money? Privatized? What do Younthink law enforcement needs and don’t need?

There's a crap-ton of paperwork that police have to turn in for each shift, and it has to be done somewhere and sometime during their shift. I'm sure you don't stay for free overtime at your job, right?

They usually find a quiet place that still isn't far from the action, so that if they get a radio call, they can be where they're needed in just a minute or two.

Before you make judgements about the police, you should request a ride-along with your local department. Most police department will let you do a ride-along for a shift, and you'll get to experience what really happens, and what police really have to deal with. Most people have no idea what they really do and how they do it.

I'm not saying that all police are great - some obviously are not - but most are good people doing their best at a very difficult, dangerous, and often thankless job, and they are often tossed under the bus by the department, the DA, or other people in their chain of command. Go see for yourself.
