National guard opinion?

i want to join the national guard but i hear from some that they aren’t respected and are just idiots and such or don’t really do anything i want to do it for disaster help and protecting the home i know can any active duty personal give me their opinion do y'all respect them or should i aim for a different branch i really want to but the things people say about them makes me not want to join is it more a joke or do they really not do anything

I had exactly zero good experiences dealing with the guard while on active duty. When we went against them as OPFOR, they were consistently the worst from a fighting standpoint, and the guard unit that relieved us on the way out of the sandbox was extremely underwhelming. Furthermore, one of my best friends who left active and went guard to finish his schooling has been relaying me some pretty bad stories about how the guard unit operates. Of course this has nothing to do with the disaster relief type of stuff you're interested in, but in my opinion, you should just go straight for working in emergency services, the coast guard, or even FEMA if that's your real passion.

I am Army NG emeritus. I see no problem with it. There is also Air Force NG. Both are state based and we can be activated by the Governor. That also can be activated by the Feds. Right now, Guard units are going to Texas to deal with the border. If I were still in, I would volunteer for that duty. There also Reserves for the all branches, Federally controlled. If I were joining, I would pick the NG and not the Reserves.

Join whatever you want mate given how things are escalating we are likely to see global war in the next 6 years in which case every able bodied person will be drafted and the world will tear itself apart as we soak the ground in an ocean of blood.

The National Guard is not the Green Berets but they are a necessary organization that really does a lot of things during disasters and emergencies. I have never heard anyone disrespect the NC. Anyone who serves their country deserv es respect
