Why is the U. S becoming more isolationist just like right before WWII?

It’s not just the U. S. Globalization periods have actually happened before in history, and we are currently experiencing the third wave of globalization. While globalization is beneficial in many ways, eventually populations begin to feel threatened- they may feel as though their way of life is being destroyed due to cultural blending, or that they are being shunned and excluded. when this happens, people begin to pull away and isolate in an attempt to preserve their beliefs and cultures. The problem with this third wave of globalization is that (especially for the US), our economies and cultures are so entwined with others that pulling back does lots of damage and harm, and seems more impactful than say, if a smaller country with little trade pulled away.

As a reaction to seeing the downsides of economic globalism. These things move and flow with the currents, as, to be blunt, they SHOULD. Having a system is indispensable; having a perfect system is impossible. Therefore, periodic changes should happen to keep things moving.

It isn't. Just the right wingers are. And this is because they know vaguely promising to protect people from vaguely terrifying foreigners is the only way the right can maintain its grip on power.

No one supports us when we try and help. Europe takes advantage of us, especially Germany. We feel like it’s a waste of money for ungrateful people. So we will be ok letting Russia, Iran, North Korea and China invade and kill as they won’t mess with us. We will be fine and make peace and trade agreements with the winners.

Because our way of life is being threatened. We’re supposed to care about and bend over backwards for everyone else in the world except our own people.
