Do you think there is a common thought among men that women cannot make humor? In my country, I think there is a common understanding of that. What do you think?
+1 yOne of the problems I often find with a lot of edgy female comedians is that they lack an authentic sense of self-deprecation.
With an asshole comedian like Bill Burr, he's a brutal social critic but he's also brutal at criticizing himself. He really does come across like someone who doesn't give a damn what people think of him and openly admits with no sense of shame whatsoever, "Hey, I'm an asshole. What did you expect?"
A lot of female comedians who try a similar thing often seem too much like they do give a damn, and I think that makes a world of difference between likable asshole vs. unlikable asshole.
Take Tony Stark (Iron Man) vs. Carol Denvers (Captain Marvel):

They're actually similar characters in many ways. They're both egotistical, snarky, assholes, but one is very likable and the other isn't, and it has nothing to do with one being a man and the other a woman as I see it.
Tony Stark is an asshole but he's self-deprecating and sincere when he openly and humbly admits his faults, that he's no leader, that he agrees that he's a jerk, that he's an alcoholic, etc. Carol Denvers generally doesn't. She lacks that humble element to make her a relatable likable asshole as opposed to an unlikable asshole.
So I don't think the problem is not that women generally aren't as funny but they haven't nailed what makes male comedians so funny. Like Carol Denvers, she has being an asshole down just like Tony Stark, but she forgot the elements that make Tony Stark a likable and relatable one.
That said, I think some female comedians are hilarious, especially ones who do more character acts. My favorite is Kristen Wiig:

Also I think women can do it but a lot of the ones in stand-up don't so much. Like with purplepoppy on here, I think she's one of the funniest users on the site. If she's halfway as funny in person as she is online, then I think she could make a most excellent female comedian.

+1 yWomen can be funny. But men donāt think the same way women do. A sense of humor is attractive but itās not a top 5 requirement for us. It never was.
So most women never had to worry about having a sense of humor. In fact if they are attractive then having a good personality is much more optional for them vs their male equivalents.
But in the last few years the entertainment is trying to promote tons of annoying female comedians in the holy name of wokeness.
These women are usually entertaining to a very small segment of the core audience. Amy Schumer is an absolute perfect example of that. And now they are throwing in obvious political views in their ācomedyā which only further isolates them. Sure they are hilarious to at most the 5% of the population who they surround themselves with
Traditional male comedians like Jim Carey were funny to almost everybody. They have a way of being self deprecating but at same time satirical. They are witty. They seem comically incompetent in their humor but they still have a way of still āpulling it offā.
Anyway men know that being too boring and serious can be a death sentence in a romantic endeavor. Even if we are good looking. Not as much vice versa. This is why men are typically better at comedy.

Comedians in general arenāt funny at all, cause theyāre forcing it. They are disingenuous.
A lot of people surrounding me, both men and women of all ages. Think Iām hilarious and Iām a woman. And Iām guessing itās because I tend to be blunt and honest and raw. many take my personality like itās hilarious. Who knows. Probably the facial expressions I make also. Or the ideas I come up with. Probably my attitude. Who fucking knows.

I think there is, especially among those men who like to label themselves 'conservative' (I've lost track of the number of jokes these people have made about Amy Schumer on YouTube).

m +1 y@islathewitch it's a common thought, yes... but more of a saying among inadequate and insecure whiny boys that can't stand the thought having to be responsible for themselves in this life
men, actual men are different... they don't need to go around saying nor thinking stupid things like this
but this is a common mistake we often make... to take the frustrated whining of some boys online and then to think that all men are stupid like that, that.. isn't the case40 Reply 5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. My wife and I have different senses of humor but I make her laugh a lot. And she sometimes comes up with shit that makes me bust a gut.00 ReplyI've liked a couple female comedians. But they're much fewer than male comedians. I think the problem is the stereotype (which many female comedians/comediennes) fall into is that they talk way too much about lady problems. Like it's half their show, at least. If you see a dude doing the same thing, talking about his dick for half the show, he'd likely be outcast too. It's not funny. One joke in there about genitals might be one thing, but to make half your show about male or female specific problems makes it difficult for half your audience to relate. That said, many women I've known also don't find most female comedians funny. Which, I think, says something.

+1 yI never really though about that but when I do, for me there is some truth to it. When I think about it, I have rarely found things women say in humor as nearly as funny as I find things men are humorous about.
I think part of this comes from the fact that much of humor comes from being able to identify with the things that are being said. And maybe women cannot deeply relate to what men find funny because they are not men. So their humor doesn't hit men as deeply because they can't identify with it as much.
Maybe it works the other way, I don't know. But it seems to me, speaking from my own experience that women -- although they seem to relate on some levels much better than women -- also find that humor coming from a man is generally funnier than from a woman. Not sure why there would be a difference. Maybe humor is somehow a more masculine trait and so both genders recognize it better coming from men.
00 Reply 5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Women can be funny. Female comedians rarely hold up, however. I suspect this is because their inner circles don't give them honest feedback, or they aren't receptive to it. Furthermore, the entertainment industry's agenda has been propping up a bunch of blatantly unfunny female comedians and feeding the stereotype, probably unintentionally.
00 Reply2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I can't speak for most women, but I can be quite funny if I am around someone who also is quite funny. You can bring it out in each other.

+1 yI have seen some reels of female comedians and they're hilarious. I've had female friends tell funny stories or jokes very well. Sometimes we fall flat when trying to be funny. I don't think that's connected to gender
20 ReplyI wouldnāt say they are not funny, but I will say I canāt rarely if ever find female comics funnyā¦because they tend to make the same belittling jokes towards men about short guys or balding guys or small d guys etcā¦if they want to make men laugh, making fun of them for unchangeable things isnāt the right way to go. Poke fun at their failure to multi taskā¦poke fun at their obsession with sports etcā¦

+1 yI think it depends on the humor types of the man and the female and whether or not you like them as a person. To me, might not be right but itās how it is for man and female, the person can say the funniest thing in the world and Iād have the straightest face ever but if I like and respect the person Iāll be dying laughing. With females I think some are hilarious but like men itās hit and miss so to say all women arenāt funny is like saying all men arenāt funny

Yes. In fact, the late comedian Jerry Lewis often opined that women can't be funny because of their sex, echoing the thoughts of a good many men even today.
Yes, I believe most men have that stereotype about women not being funny. But it's bullcrap. There are a lot of very funny women. Some men just need to get over themselves.
