Yup! Put me down for both - especially Clemenceau.

As I have mentioned before, I find it curious how a leader who got France through what was arguably its' worst war in history seems to have been forgotten. When the pantheon of French leaders is mentioned, "the Tiger of France," as he was known, has dropped down the memory hole.

As to Napoleon - you know what a fan I am. (Yes, that was a joke.) So it will be fun to see how you explain the "vile little emperor," to use the line from the George Will column.

Seriously though, you are always a thoughtful writer who offers valuable insights on your country and culture. I look forward to your work.

In France, only Louis XIV, Napoleon and Charles de Gaulle are on the minds of the French when it comes to their greatest leaders.

But Clemenceau is clearly forgotten. And I'd like to try and explain why.

Having mentioned The Great War, I have to give a call out for Indy Neidell's series of the same name. It is quite an investment because it is in the form of a news report - something like 200 episodes originally released weekly. I recommend it because this news format gives a better sense of what it was like at the time.

How can I not be interested in Napoleon?

I think your direction will be good as from an Anglo angle he has treated in a fairly two dimensional way limited to battles. Why he did what he did will be a great MyTake.

A lots has already been written about Napoleon. Bad guy, Hitler of the 1800s, thankfully defeated and so on. I think your going to need to put in a personal twist to get people interested, remember a lot of people here are from America and won't know who Napoleon was.
