Considering that buying insurance for everything is more expensive and I would get a much worse service. I do not think it is much of a choice. Public services are the way to go for a lot of things.

For healthcare Privately owned insurance only profit motivation is monopoly an area, like how our jobs are connected to our healthcare insurance and to deny coverage. This is all around bad for people. People are locked in jobs that can't afford healthcare that can find better work.

Public insurance needs people on their feet to go to work and pay taxes. We also recognize this with dialysis for some reason and the EMTALA bill. While it is a tax the benefits out weigh the risk and is more a kin to investment like how our government loves bailing out million dollar companies.

Insurance. I work for the government. We're slow and inefficient at everything.

All my Canadian friends cross into the U. S. when they need ACTUAL health care because they can see specialists immediately. When you're actually sick and potentially dying, guess what's important to you most? Time. After my heart attack I had extraordinary care. Still going through it, so still wracking up bills. I pay a fixed max out of pocket a year so might as well get the most of it. 4k/year (my max out of pocket) is a pretty low sum to get some of the best cardiac care in the country. I have shite police and EMT service where I live, but the nearest city to me has higher taxes and just as shite police coverage if not worse, so where's the incentive for the extra 2% costs? Public transportation? Don't use it. Schools? No kids, and our school system produces the most retarded kids in the free world.

no taxes because govt is wasteful vs private industry which competes to lower cost. Govt just set and audit to standards and educate. We do that with electricity to some extent.

Not all companies have competition. And not all industries can benefit from competition especially if it's a service that people need in emergencies

I think the only taxes that should exist are consumption tax/tariffs. Tariffs on foreign goods can be utilized to maintain a military and diplomatic core to deal with foreign powers we trade with and who would interfere with that foreign trade. Consumption tax (sale tax) at the state/local level, can be used to maintain routes of commerce (i. e. roads, rail, sea ports, shipping lanes, etc.). No other taxes are needed.

If you don't want to spend any money, you never get taxed. If you are low income, the amount of tax you pay is minimum. If you are a large company that consumes a lot, you pay a lot of tax. If you decide to manufacture your goods in foreign lands, then you have to pay tariffs to maintain that safe standing via diplomacy and military power. You can pass that cost along to consumers if they are willing to pay it.

I'd rather pay for what I use. That means you don't even need insurance, because that's paying someone for something you're not using for the majority of your life on the off chance that something happens and you didn't save any money. I'm capable of learning most things on my own, but if I need more credentials I don't mind paying someone who is an expert to teach me what I seek to learn. The same goes for any children. I'm capable of teaching my own children, and if I want to send them somewhere to learn more, I'd be willing to pay for it. In America we already pay for garbage pickup weekly/monthly and a private company runs the garbage business. I have a septic system for sewage and pay someone like a $100-150 every 2-3 years to come pick it up. It's way cheaper than what they charge in cities. I also have water wells on my property and treat my own water. Clean water is almost free with a very small investment up front. It's crazy that people actually pay hundreds of dollars a month to cities to deliver water to them and think they are getting a discount through government services. I can irrigate broad acreage and supply very clean water to my home for roughly $15 a month just doing it myself. I've rarely needed health care in my life and when I needed it the cost of the service was less than the insurance copay. As I become older I'm sure that will change, but if you know that ahead of time you save up for the level of care you want in old age. If you're not paying all those crazy taxes your entire life you have a lot more income to invest in your future.

I pay my health care out of pocket because it's costs less than the insurance. Why does it cost less? Because I use it with discretion because it's not "free" and insurance costs more for me because I have to help pay for other people that go to the hospital for a pimple.
