Yes, disorderly conduct in all cases. I had a tendency to be the worst binge drinker of them all, getting thrown out from places and getting into the occasional drunken brawl. They never involved more than an overnight stay in jail to cool off and sober up.

There was one time to my shame where I resisted arrest violently. It was a rock bottom point in my life when I was very broken-hearted (engaged to be married only to see the wedding engagement broken off one week before marriage). Thankfully it was in Japan (I might have been killed if I did it in the US, but Japanese police officers are very peaceful) and the police officers subdued me and forgave me and released me the next day although with strong recommendations that I seek out mental help.

With all the brawling, I never initiated the fights physically (never the type to throw a first punch or even shove) but I did have a bad tendency towards being overly emotionally sensitive and belligerent about being only half-Japanese when totally drunk.

In particular, I've always been very sensitive about the word, gaijin (外人). It's a rude word in general to refer to "foreigners" or "outsiders" that I never use, but I especially hated being called it since I'm actually from Japan and a Japanese citizen despite being half-white. So when people called me "gaijin" to my face, even if only due to insensitivity and not even outright belligerence, I had a tendency to overreact and counter with the most belligerent insults when drunk.

That was always how I ended up in all my drunken brawls, including last year like this:

I don't have a tat on my chest. I just scribbled my alias in marker to show someone on Discord that I'm not a catfish.
I don't have a tat on my chest. I just scribbled my alias in marker to show someone on Discord that I'm not a catfish.

I didn't get arrested for that one but I got my ass thoroughly handed to me by a Karate master who punched harder than anyone I've ever fought. Thankfully he was a gentleman and helped me back up and we bought each other drinks and became friends after that and he even apologized to me for calling me "gaijin".

However, I recently quit drinking towards the end of last year. There were a variety of reasons for it but one was that I was getting tired of finding myself in brawls all the time. When I'm sober, I can resist becoming upset by words like, "gaijin". The rational side of my brain kicks in and realizes they might just not be educated about the rudeness of the word or even if they actually meant to be rude, that's no reason to be rude in response.

In particular, I've been trying to practice Stoicism. I'm really a huge fan of Stoic philosophy focusing on cultivating inner peace and joy. I'm actually decent at it when I'm sober.

Sometimes I do get a bit irritable if I'm sick or sleep-deprived and still have some further work to do in those cases, but now without alcohol, I think I can get much closer to mastery of maintaining Stoic and positive thought patterns.

So starting from this year onward, I'm aiming never to get into a brawl ever again and likewise never get arrested for disorderly conduct ever again.

Cheers! 🤝 I'm aiming for the Zen thing now. Alcohol was one of my greatest obstacles there.

Not really ^^ I stole some things from a gasstation as a kid because my friends from school were doing it. They found that this attendant at the shop was very absent minded and left their post a lot as well so they went there regularly and they stole a lot. I only stole small things and after 2 times I was done cause it was not exciting for me anymore I felt more bad. And I have "forgotten" to scan something at the self scan thing too but I haven't done that in a long time either.

‘Joe Hackett’ said that line in an episode of Wings’ which was a sitcom in the ‘90s.

Everyone has. One judge said (and many others have said similar things) that the legal system today is so convoluted and vast you can't help but violate arcane and obscure laws constantly. Even if you're only violating those laws because you don't know they exist.

I'm pretty sure everyone has broken some law at least once during their life. Speeding, rolling through a stop sign or running a red lights are obvious driving infractions. And, maybe ass a child, petty theft.

I once walked out to my hotel balcony in the nude without realising that there was a strict law against exhibitionism in the country I was in at the moment. I mean I didn’t do it on purpose - but I did technically broke the law.
