Most Canadians do things the same way for the same reason most Australians do many things the same way -- because they've been so beaten down by the authoritarian states under which they've been bullied into serving. This is my opinion only.
We're not afraid to apologize for being a**holes (most of us, anyway) unlike Americans, who think obnoxiousness, like obesity and dullness, are admirable traits. (That's why most Yankees are disliked overseas.)
No, but when I was in Ireland, I noticed if you ask an Irish person "how are you doing," they always said "not too bad."
