Guys what do you think would happen if a huge meteor was heading towards our planet?

How would people act? Do you believe it would awaken something mean in people? Do you think we would kill each other just to survive even though we all know no one would survive something like this. It would just end us all

Do you think that it is inevitable for people to stay calm? Do you believe many people wouldn't care because they want to die anyway?

Do you even believe it could happen to us?

Many people suspect it could be the end of the world (apocalypse) because since 2020 many things don't feel real and life ain't the same anymore

I think lots of people would freak out and just start causing chaos for no good reason. I think some would just spend the rest of their time with their loved ones. But some would take advantage to "enjoy" themselves as much as possible before the end and stop caring.

Tom Rob Smith's Cold People, which was in general a marked downgrade from his earlier work, had one moment that I feel sums things up perfectly. The book has an alien armada show up out of nowhere and tell humanity that they have 30 days to relocate to Antarctica. What will happen to those who don't isn't specified. Naturally, every country begins mass evacuations, and the contrast in how they do so, and who they choose to save, is one of the more interesting parts of the book.

One of the POV characters is an Israeli soldier, assigned to watch over the airport people are being airlifted from. Since all the focus is on moving people and supplies as fast as possible, he's more there to protect the planes from desperate people trying to get on board than to guard from outside attack, and so no one manages to stop the MiG-27 that zooms past their defenses to attack the terminal building where the scientists and scholars waiting to be evacuated are being held. It fires its missiles, but the aliens' jamming field prevents them from detonating, so the pilot simply kamikazes his way into the building, killing everyone inside. It's probably the single most realistic scene.

Disaster brings out both the best and the worst in humanity.

my aerospace education is limited, but i'll try to explain it.

there is a gravitational pull from all planets and moons and large objects like meteors in space. that pull can be small or very large depending on where and when that pull comes. that's what creates tides and the wind.

I think NASA's funding was defunded a long time ago. I still get a lot of reports from NASA though. So, we know when meteoric fallout from space occurs. it could be space trash from previous missions or deflected metoric rock.

in order to project through space would require some type of fuel or momentum from something very powerful. a meteor entering our system just doesn't make sense. it would have to be targeted directly towards us to happen. and that's not going to happen.

if you want an apocalyptic scenario that could happen, then i'll give you one. our earth likes to shift axis every so years. that polarity is not constant. i'm not sure why we know it shifts. that's one worry.

two: that polarity of our planet is what keeps us living. we are at just the right pull of magnitude to the sun and moon to create life.

i don't want you to believe this. i want you to make up your own mind for yourself.

Well first off what you mean is an "Asteroid". It doesn't actually become a meteor until it enters earth's atmosphere.

I think most of society would doubt it to begin with. I think our media would play a large part in this though. And as the date approached our society would descend into chaos.

Have you heard of asteroid 99942 Apophis? It's supposed to come close enough to the earth in 2029 that it'll dip below our communications satellites. That's a graze in astrological terms (and that's still 19,000 miles away). Even if Apophis hit (which it's not supposed to) it's mass (27 billion kg) and velocity (30km per sec.) Is not enough to wipe out life on Earth. Though it is estimated it would kill about 10 million people and would be the greatest catastrophe in human history.

If you're interested, they have apps that you can download to you're phone that track "NEO's" (Near Earth Objects) that are passing by our planet at all times, and thier trajectory.

Okay, I do believe that most people on planet Earth would come together and help each other, as best they could. There wouldn't be what you see in those B-grade Hollywood disaster movies, which of course are just meant to entertain, and not provide us with an accurate guide to the Apocalypse.

I did say "most people", because in 'Merica they'd all become even more paranoid than they already are, grab their guns (their phallic substitute), and kill each other off over stupid things like the last roll of toilet paper.

There was this movie with Tea' Lioni where a meteor is headed towards earth and her character, realizing her dad won't be allowed in the bunkers because of his age, ends up going to the beach with her dad and together they sit and watch as the meteor breaks Earth's atmosphere and of course, ends up killing them. So I looked over at my dad, and I was like, dad if a meteor were coming, would you go and sit at the beach with me as the world ended. I expected my dad to be like, of course, but he said, "hell no! Why the hell would I want to see it coming? You're a weirdo! I'd be inside where at least I wouldn't know exactly when it was hitting. You go out there and die alone!" I've never laughed so hard!

I was watching a documentary about a volcano and a man who knew it was going to hit their city was watching a movie and eating pop corn and his friend asked, “how can you eat pop corn at a time like this?” And his response was, “I always eat pop corn when I’m watching a movie.”

I think people would choose to live normal lives, even at the point of death because their normalcy is their coping mechanism.

Like if I was on death row for some crime and had one last meal before I died, I would still avoid candy and greasy food because it’s bad for my teeth and liver.

others would just accept it and get on with their normal day, needing that normality

First off, you wouldn't know anything because they would hide it as long as possible. Elites would try to build hastily some bunkers, food, steel and concrete would become expensive. That's why they wouldn't allow to inform the public and would try to upkeep normal functioning society as long as possible for the sake of resource production. Even if there were some information leaks, mainstream media would declare every bit of truth as psychotic conspiracy theory

I think there would be pain and many people dying leading up to the event. Many people starving do to food hoarding and lack of food supply. Also riots caused by shortages of everything. Honestly who would bother going to work if they know they will soon die?
