In certain countries the Judges need to jail more people or else they get in trouble. Like the USA.

Never been.

We had a normal guy where I grew up eho walked up to a police officer. Winter.
The guy asks the police "What do I need to do to go to jail for two to three months?"
The police jokingly replies.
The guy does it.
Police warns him.
The guy then starts trying to smash up the police car.

Heard later, from police, that he basically didn't want to pay his rent and food and such during winter where it all gets very expensive. Staying at a prison here was apparently preferable.
I do believe he got a fine instead. Did something else and then got his sentence he wanted.

So I would say in Scandinavia at least prisons are not very bad or frightening.

False accusation in college. Was served an ex parte PPO. She could have had me arrested even for attempting to avoid her in our tiny campus. Luckily I didn’t bump into her. Only time I saw her was in court where my lawyer was able to convince her and her family lawyers to have the ex parte PPO changed to a civil temporary restraining order. Couldn’t do anything else other than that. @robocop666

yup corrupt country. The judge is forced to jail people or they will get into trouble. That is why so many innocent people go to jail there. I would never go there.

Only for a guided tour once it was shut down. I cannot imagine committing a crime to end up in jail. I’m too selfish with my freedom to waste it on anyone else.
