Have you ever woken up screaming?

Throughout my childhood, it wasn't uncommon for my mom to tell me that I woke up, screaming and thrashing around at night. But I never did remember doing it, nor the nightmare that provoked such a reaction.

I've listened to audiobooks, one of my favorite is Shenandoah. Titus spent nearly a year in Camp Douglas when he was taken prisoner at the battle of Fredericksburg.

He woke up several times, screaming loud enough to wake up the dead, 2 counties away, he was thrashing around, violently, as he screamed. The touch of his little brother was enough to scare away whatever demons had him in such a fit.

Recently, I had one such fit, it horrified my dogs and everyone else, so much so, that nobody came upstairs to me. Which is a good decision, I'd been drinking, and may have been hallucinating, that combined with whatever nightmares possessed me to scream and thrash, it's not a good combination.

I don't remember such a fit happening, but others told me that it happened.
