Why are old people so stubborn?

Honestly trying to talk sense into a stubborn old person is very hard. I just watch him work and it's like beating a dead horse. I just step away and laugh when you try to help them. It's so hard to fix stupid people especially when they pull the age question and then you ask them what will happen when you do this etc...

Sometimes older people apparently find it harder to learn something new, the same way you may find it harder learning something complex even at your age from someone who knows something really well and they give you a hard time when your the one in the ball pit or in the lion's cage trying to figure out the basics even. The basics even 👀👀👀👀🙃😏 maybe that's the food for thoughts sir? Without invalidating what you're saying. You're as correct, as a wiser older instructor teaching you the basics directly and harshly. Both are, not invalid , 😞. Intriguing, isn't it? ☺️🤗

An older person generally has more experience in life and has adopted opinions and ways of doing things that passed the test of time. For example, a few years ago I saw they are teaching how to calculate division problems differently in math. Young people were saying it is easier. To me, it is far easier to use the same method that I know well and can perform the math operation quickly and easily using the method I learned 45 years ago.

Would you want a random 5 year old telling you how to do things and telling you ”how it is”? To them you’re the 5 year old. You’re technically an adult sure, but the age difference is proportionally about the same as between you and the 5 year old and to them you’re basically a child how knows nothing and experienced nothing yet.

It's a pride thing plus a lot don't keep up with new developments and cling on to how they were first taught. It's a big problem in my industry (farming) where they continue to treat animals with medications that no longer work and ignore veterinary advice etc.

Maybe they're stubborn, maybe they just don't want unsolicited advice. There could be many reasons depending upon the specific situation.

This is a generalization that is not based in fact. Many older people display a curiosity to learn new things. Maybe if you did not talk down to or ridiculed the person you might get better results.
