The hypothetical question has sparked a debate "if you are alone in the woods would you rather encounter a bear or a man?"
Most women pick bear.
The hypothetical question has sparked a debate "if you are alone in the woods would you rather encounter a bear or a man?"
Most women pick bear.
The bear has usually one reason for killing. It has fears or deterrents. It has its own diet as well.
With this. Chances are higher for a woman to maneuver this encounter safely to safety. With a man. There’s stubborness almost as if they had rabies. There’s lust that avoids logic. There’s childhood traumas and conformities that drive them as well. To the point where the woman should be subdued by him. Should be his next victim in his psychotic imaginations. Should be one to accept his attempts to convince her to be agreeable or so. He’s on her sexual menu and sometimes there’s no negotiation and sometimes he will be rude and aggressive about it.
So yeah, women would prefer a species they hardly deal with as compared to one who interacts with them in everyday life and is prone to noticing them and having some interaction of some sort and the possibilities of it being unpleasant are a decent size amount.
Myself? Being a naturist I would also choose bear. Bears don’t indulge in fantasies and feed mental illnesses and such. They just have one instinct to hunt and to keep alive.
If I could choose the bear I’d honestly choose-
1.) panda bear lol
2.) doesn’t count but it does for me: koala bear
3.) black bear
4.) and really wouldn’t want to test my skills against it but a grizzly bear
5.) any variation of brown bear.
Actually just read about their attacks only being self defense so every guy is trying to criminalize bears here lol
Guys in general must really have something against bears. I mean I suppose that’s why they hunt them. 🤷♀️
Now if we’re talking wolves or something or lions- that could be a different story but a bear…. Lol
@Siri137 well after some research, watching a Steve Irwin video clip featuring koalas and koala rescue, as well as seeing your profile as you yourself from Australia, I can make the adjustment and leave out the word ‘bear.’
As much as I don’t like your written tone and your way at times conducted with others, I wouldn’t want to offend you, your country and one of your country’s most adored marsupials.
For context: As far as I can remember, I always heard many people call them koala bears. In multiple states, I also know of Aussies who haven’t any issue with it. But for the sake of accuracy, and respect to the country and species, I’ll simply ignore the second part of the name.
They’re still lovely animals, and I still see them as cuddly bears- just more like the teddy- than the bear family.
Thanks for… I don't know saying NOBODY IN AUSTRALIA SAYS THAT, and getting extreme. I’d encourage you not to teach anyone in wildlife of your country cause it wasn’t very neutral and informational- moreso judgmental, aggressive, and exclamatory. Which aren’t really traits of good teachers and those who provide ACTUALLY helpful information.
I suppose I’ll have to adjust my views of perhaps the stereotypical aspect of aussies as well because I thought they as a people were usually chill and docile. I guess NOT.
Regardless-
Mental notes taken! 👍
And I refuse to drag this out beyond the initial statement. I said I could make adjustment for the species and country. Period. Done. Just because I don’t wish to offend them, doesn’t mean I have to carry on with one of their poorest examples of a citizen and member lol.
by the way if I cared that much about Australia, I would’ve read up on it myself. Supposedly they have whole books on the country and it does a much better job of providing information than you did and usually do on here.
Point is, (since you claim to be direct), I’ve read information before and never took offense to it. I was offending by you because you feel the need to correct people especially me having gone on multiple occasions to do so including this one, which isn’t your question- when it was uncalled for cause I clearly said they’re not bears but I consider them as such.
And previously with a post of mine you selected as mho but didn’t like or say any point of agreement or added anything worth adding/ helpful/ or positive. So you clearly have a problem with me, and unfortunately you’ve bothered me enough to take initiative and block your immature and poor behavior.
I said I would change it before- but now I simply won’t. Call that immature, but you should’ve respected me as a person that I can call it whatever I want. I can call a beluga whale belu. I can nickname any species I want, and since I’m not any animal specialist who informs people about animals- I’m pretty sure I can get away with it, without it causing me to be jailed or anything extreme.
Long live koala bears mate! Be seein’ ya. Won’t be miss in’ your kinds of posts and questions either.
Even Siri does a better job with info than you do. Consider a name change for yourself. You seem improperly named. That’s just what I observed. 🤷♀️
Unless you're unfortunate enough for the man to be Hannibal Lecter there's a statistical improbability of you being killed by a random male stranger in the woods.
To the insane individual who started the whole fuckwittery of the question, please take the AIs with you and go wrestle a bear. (No, I've not seen an AI answer this one yet)
The sheer stupidity of the question is matched only by the insanity of the number of women who think they'd be safer with the bear? Seriously? SERIOUSLY?
I considered doing this on as anonymous, but frankly if anyone is so offended by my being a man who - despite having one leg - would rather wrestle the bear myself to give the most hardline feminazi woman a chance to get away safely, then I suspect we'd never be able to see eye to eye on anything.
Aged 17 I offended a girl from the sister school to mine on a trip by insisting on walking on the outside of the footpath - until the car hit me instead of her. Now at 52 I don't have time for bullshit or bullies. If you can't or won't accept that the majority of Real Men think and behave the way I do and it's not sexist or something bollocks similar to do so, then that's your problem.
I get you’re upset at stupidity. But no female just makes this up. There’s actual reason for the behavior and it’s precautionary measures so to call precaution as stupidity is a bit… wrong and strange.
Rape is the underlier. And I get some men could never fathom rape because they would love to be fucked by a woman or have the chance by some seductress or sex hungry female who could usually as well not hurt them, but it’s sad that men can’t comprehend the severity of rape when the sex isn’t wanted and when for some women the sex is not everything and all there is to life. So to have that in such a way be done is just truly traumatic. I don’t think anyone can actually fully grasp it not even women who have never experienced it.
With that such a risk- it’s like why chance it? It’s just too risky and too close to call. Once you’re raped that’s it. You only get raped (HOPEFULLY AND NOT HOPEFULLY) one time. Being raped at all is horrible and to be done so multiple times is incredulous.
In my comment I mentioned bears can have real natural deterrents and are only a threat if SEVERELY hungry or a mama THREATENED by the close proximity of you and her along with her young. Anything else and it’s a literal walk in the park. Literally. Compared numbers of rapes and crimes in general to numbers of attacks from bears on bystanders or hikers or bikers? I’m sure you’ll see a drastic difference.
The point is that violent sexual predators who attack complete strangers are the minority of offenders, and those offenders are the minority of men.
There's around 8 billion people on the planet, so roughly 4 billion men. The majority of whom by over 99% wouldn't have any desire to hurt a woman, never mind rape her
It's not "some" men. The men who commit these horrific crimes are an extreme minority, even assuming the estimate that for each rape reported on average 3 are never reported it still falls under 1% of the male population.
Despite this, and the statistics that 100% of hungry bears will eat you given the chance, you would still take the bear?
I've been involved with rape and childhood abuse counselling on and off for over 30 years. Two of my closest friends were raped, and another has had to deal with waiting for 12 years to see the animal who raped her daughter at the age of 3 get prosecuted and still no trial date set - thanks, South Africa - despite overwhelming evidence of his guilt.
All the cases - every single time - were committed by someone the survivor knew and trusted. In 30+ years I've never met anyone raped by a complete stranger. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just pointing out it's the exception, not the rule.
And while what you wear doesn't make you more or less likely to be raped, but it could increase the likelihood of a hungry bear catching your scent.
Finally, compare the number of bears to the number of men. And remember that bears are ALL carnivores - even the fluffy black-and-white Chinese ones. I'm sure you'll see the difference in percentage that will eat you compared between the two.
@Red_Arrow lol I won’t engage in this with you like I’d literally pick a bear right now than see your pathetic reply seeking out. This is why we prefer animals. lol
You literally chose anything perhaps related with death to compare and prove a point. I can’t possibly discuss this with you when you have a natural bias you can’t even fairly acknowledge my side and then present your side of the debate. You’re not here replying to educate or inform me. You’re not a friendly person… so fk off lol
And what do you actually know about bears? When this question was posted everyone decided to become a bear expert? Fu CK no way Josè move that along…
Just keep trucking dude.
When I replied to the one guy I explained the mindset of women and the logic. When you replied you came to restate it as stupidity. Say that to a lady who has been raped. You clearly display no compassion or understanding whatsoever for this demographic.
So anyways. I can’t discuss this with you.
Furthermore your example was absolute bs because you’re talking about the mental skill of operating a vehicle and eye cooddination and faults of people on the road etc. the poor safety quality of machinery and comparing that to human interactions and human psychology. So no-
The two are far from ever being the same. The statistics are there. People have encountered bears before and hairs still in tact. People live along side bears co-existing.
Alaska-
And bears usually avoid confrontation with humans unless attracted by human foods like garbage and bbq and all
OR
They have rabies or some other illness.
Either way I choose bear and animal than a man in the woods. You wanna say it to my face that this decision of mine makes me stupid? Good you can laugh at my funeral but idc I choose bear. Now have a good day.
@DJB72
Yeah choose nature buddy. I choose what I’ve read on bears than to read your statistics. Bears aren’t some exception to wildlife. They don’t like to interact with humans. I’m not stupid. I almost caught a wild deer in hands I’ve held an alligator. I rather see nature. I understand nature. 🤷♀️
I’m not about to walk in the woods with a therapist so they can tell me what motives or problems a guy has. It doesn’t even have to be rape or assault. It can just be aggression. Attitude. I prefer the wildlife 🤷♀️ I wouldn’t be caught in the woods alone unless fully prepared for either situation. And I choose bear even when being prepared.
I can meet guys in the city. Not in some isolated area. No way josè 🤷♀️
I’ll excuse myself from this section. I don’t even care. What you guys think is whatever. I shouldn’t have even replied. I just refuse to discuss it. My mind is made up cause I see the logic in my side. I refuse to be convinced otherwise and go against my own instinct. 🤷♀️ rather chance being eaten than raped sorry.
A bear is likely just to kill and eat.
a man / human is more likely to ‘play’ with their food,
Rape, torture, etc, and eventually killed or possibly just left there for the bear to find.
It is that, is there anything worse than death thing.
obviously the above are negatives, the bear could ignore you and the guy could be a park ranger offering to show you a decent track through the forest.
i do a fair bit of mountain biking and you have people putting fishing wire or steel wire at biker head height across tracks, sharpened sticks, barbwire etc, bears definitely do not do that.
@Smashingdoozy wow some fairly triggered responses, then again it’s gag
First of all I would not be alone in the woods unless something went really wrong like if I was in a plane crash or something.
But to answer the question, I would be freaked out to encounter either, but I will say I’d rather encounter a man, and the reason is that i think a man who would be deep in the woods is prob. not looking for women to do anything harmful, if he was he’d be somewhere else, and he might be a self reliant kind of person who would be more likely to try to protect me than to hurt me. And at least can probably speak to each other unlike a bear where I would be trying to figure out what it was thinking.

Where you live colors your perception of how dangerous a bear is. Most of you would probably see a black bear if you live in the US, but near where I live we have brown bears more than 24 times as likely to attack. They make up only 7% of the bear population but are responsible for 64% of attacks. Even so, If the man intended harm, there is no question that he the worse of the two. The real question is what proportion of men would intend harm. I don’t know the answer to that question, but I do think most women subconsciously feel it is rather small. My evidence? When I go hiking and I pass a lone woman on the trail, most either pass by causally or give a polite smile. Some were probably quietly weary (and who would blame them?) but I doubt they would have been so nonchalant if they passed within a couple of feet of a bear or someone they thought intended them harm. But for most people the point may be moot anyway, since a WAY more people die from things like exposure when alone in the woods then bears or murder, so your best chance of survival is probably rolling the dice, seeking out that man, and pooling your resources to make it out of there.
I did see a meme I thought was kind of funny about it. When it popped up men everywhere online were enraged and started telling women how dumb they were and they should pick man over bear.
The meme said: It's only a dumb hypothetical bullshit question but men still can't take no for an answer.
😂😂 That made me laugh lol.
yeah its soooo revealing whenever any man overreacts to this. shows just how insecure they are lol.
More interesting are all the men being furious why a women may feel safer with a bear than a man.
People who get angry about other people's answers should do some research on bears and men and women. It's really not as cut and dry as the average person assumes, in either direction. There's a reason this is a popular question that sparks debate.
A bear has a nature which it unfailingly adheres to, you can learn how to not provoke it and what to do and not. Man however, is unpredictable and can kill, maim and torture you for any or no reason at all.

Feels like trolling with all the women choosing a bear. Just further emphasizes women are not logical creatures.
@Apple1996 I think someone should do a reality show about this to settle it once and for all.
Statistics literally prove it 🥴
i'd also just pick bear.
firstly, for the majority, bears don't want to interact. it'd be obvious is i fucked them off. worse scenario, i'm just dead. no worrying over ulterior motives.
I think we're about two weeks away from the "liberal" media bombarding us with videos of women getting mauled to death by bears. Like how NBC, ABC, and CNN dug up a video of a black man assaulting an Asian woman and basically played it on a loop until Asians stopped participating in the BLM protests in 2020.
Bears are at least cute so I wouldn't mind one on top of me 🐻
I think there is a lot of unawareness of potentially how dangerous bears can be. I doubt that there is a huge risk either way you pick.
I personally would pick the bear but it's only cause they are my favourite animal and I'd love to see one up close like that. I'd love to pet one actually but I feel like trying that on a wild bear may not be good for ones health.
Since 1784 there's been 180 fatal bear conflicts in north America. I'll let you guess how many fatal attacks there are on women by men per year 🙃
Even if you adjust for population. There 340k bears in the USA. There are 39.6 conflicts with bears annually. (That's mean and women). So that's like a 0.01% chance of being attacked by a bear. USA make population is 165.25 million, in 2021 442,754 women reported sexual assault. That's 0.2%. that's only ones that are reported to. Most are not.
lol nice statistics. *thumbs up*
I looked up the names of fatal bear attack victims and I now think it's safe to say that most fatal victims of bear attacks are male.
So either both genders are lying when it comes to what they prefer to encounter or both are bad at risk analysis, for women on what to encounter and for men on what to do during the encounter.
the statistics are far greater that the bear will be hungry and eat the shit out of you, while statistically, there's a super-small, little itty-bitty chance that the random man will have ANY ill intentions toward any random person he meets in the woods. Only a feminist, man-hating moron would choose the bear. Or someone with an actual death wish or kink of being inside a stomach.
It's a great question. People get upset about it but statistically you are safer encountering a bear.
The number of interactions with men are significantly higher than interactions with bears so of course being attacked by a man is more likely to happen. This doesn't mean people are safer around bears, it just means the vast majority of people have never encountered a bear.
I'm talking about rational ratios.
How many bears are encountered vs being attacked.
Then how many sexual assaults are reported (add in those not reported too to be fair) in an average populated area.
If more people lived with bears I guarantee you it would end the same way it ended for Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend.
That's aside the point of the question. Up time spent with wild animals, up chance of possible injuries from them.
I'm only responding to your comment. It's assumed that bears are less dangerous because people don't spend as much time around them as they do with men. If the amount of interactions with men and bears were equal only then would that be a fair statement.
@sirderpsalot123 but to be fair the bears would then be acclimated to humans. That causes different scenarios vs a wild bear in the woods who hasn't had much contact with humans
@dustybiker2. I don't believe that. 99% of men are good. Men are programmed to help women in need, up to and including sacrificing their lives.
Personally, I have done a lot for random women, expecting nothing in return except a "thank you".
That's in theory because most aren't acclimated to humans. I was reading something about bears who relocated close to campsites to avoid boars eating their babies. They deemed humans a lesser threat and there were still several bear attacks in that area.
We can say that bears won't rape, but we can't say for certain that bears are less dangerous.
@KrakenAttackin 12 people rent share a house on my street. 8 of those people, (four of them several times) have committed crimes that caused for their arrest. Attempted rape and attacking roommates with a knife were among them just in the past four months.
Those are serious odds.
@dustybiker2. I completely understand as I was a cop for several years in the 90's. These neighbors of yours are not typical. When I was on patrol there were houses and streets we went to CONSTANTLY, no kidding, same people, same places all the time. The majority of the city we never went to and were always a bit perplexed when we wound get a call in a "nice" neighborhood.
This situation is unique in that it started with four gamer guys. Three focused on work respecting the area and moving on with life.. and one slacker. This is the guy everyone predicted would be last here. He brought in every drug addict and mental case to make rent when the others moved on to marry, etc. Doubt the owner knew until recently.
i don't think i'd wanna be alone out there with another dude either lol
The question is obviously designed to trigger men, and women answering "bear" are just trolling.
They're literally not trolling...
@Smashingdoozy only sluts or gullible women would choose man in the woods. They wouldn’t mind the raping or sexual possibility and they wouldn’t think the guy could hurt them cause they were surrounded by rich guys or guys who didn’t do such things or they believed rough play with brothers and such was normal. Like you’re telling me a guy wouldn’t try to shoot his shot when alone with a lady? The woods just isn’t the right place unless he’s a park ranger 🤷♀️ and even then I’d still be uneasy.
@KrakenAttackin and that would be the BEST thing for you to do. I would honestly do the same and women have done it before as well. I’m not nuts. You’re nuts to think we live in me Roger’s neighborhood…
I said in another comment before I wouldn’t even prefer a woman in the woods. I guess you’re personally too trusting of people in such an environment. I never lend myself at the mercy of other people. If it’s an independent and public zone. Where I have access to defense and security then I’m okay with interacting with anyone. Yeah you do that. You keep calling me a fool. Watch me not give a shxt. Mama didn’t raise no fool.
@KrakenAttackin just to clarify- you WANT a woman in the woods?
Would you want your daughter with a man? Or a bear?
You’re absolutely missing a few screws.
Perhaps she's walking the dog or her route just happens to go through a wood.
@KrakenAttackin dum b a s s
That’s the point of the HYPOTHETICAL addition To the QUESTION.
someone is seriously living in a Stone Age and yet they think everyone is handing out lollipops… I’m done with you. Call me dum b a s s one more time.
@KrakenAttackin immature and blocked 😂 and hilarious I got you to do something too. Like L’s across the board.
Have a nice one dude. Lmao 🤣 gotta keep this as a keep sake and show it to everyone I know. 😂 that’s so wild. But still prefer the bear wild 👋🤣
@Rosexøxø 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Most women pick bear because they are either too ignorant to understand what a bear encounter would mean, or they just want to make men look bad. I think it's more the latter. This is just another childish chapter in the ongoing gender war.
Oh trust me men do enough to make themselves look bad. Like this answer for example. Ignorance is bliss they say
That exactly the kind of answer I would expect from you.
Women do plenty to make themselves look bad as well. You are a consistent example of that.
In my sleep, I encountered a 300 pound plus Black Bear. He or she left me alone,
in my opinion this question validates female delusion and why it's so prevalent in today's day and age.
It was started for the sole purpose of making your average man, who isn't part of the problem feel like shit for simply being a man. Hateful and obnoxious.
Cry me a fucking river
You asked for our opinion and I assumed you wanted honest answers. Feel free to delete my reply if it was according to you, the wrong opinion
Update: prove me wrong about what?
This question is getting on my nerves, since when is there something called a trendy question?
I don't know. Never said it was trendy.
My opinion is the people who pick “bear” have never been outside.
Lmao@ the update.
I don't think people think it through and/or haven't seen a real bear.
Stats don't lie
@Smashingdoozy thank you 📊
Likelihood of being attacked by a bear < getting attacked by a man.
You look it up and do the math...
Look at assaults on women add them up.
Look at attacks on people by bears.
One is greater than the other significantly.
Most people don't understand how dangerous bears are.
You're far more likely to be attacked by a man than a bear
Actually no. There's been like 180 fatal attacks by bears since 1784... About 38 non fatal attacks a year...
The bear is gonna win against any man
The worst thing they could do is kill you.
I guess it depends on what kind of bear and what season it is. If it’s a black bear I think I’d be chilling. Any of the others are then I think I’d pick man solely on the fact that I can rip the throat out of a man. I can’t do that with a bear🙁.
But I can understand why most women would pick bear specifically because you don’t really hear about a whole lot of bear attacks.
I find it funny 😂😂😂
What if it's a male bear 🤔
The women thats said bear, are retarded.
most women are stupid
I'd rather come across a man
I say bear.
