Thoughts on freedom of speech?

I believe in freedom of speech for all speech for everyone EXCEPT for people who don't believe in freedom of speech such as the leftards who want ban misgendering, "hate speech" or "misinformation".

I believe in freedom of speech for EVERYONE

I believe in freedom of speech only for people who believe in freedom of speech for me, regardless of if we disagree on other topics

I don't believe in freedom of speech and support censorship of things that might offend me or others

Freedom of speech is a constitutional right, which means only that you are protected from the government putting you in prison for what you say. It does not protect you from the policies of private companies nor does it protect you from pushback from public opinion. If you want to say "misgendering" should be allowed (which it already is, by the way), the thing to do is to come up with a good faith argument for that and push it into the court of public opinion. Absurd claims of victimhood and grievance only indicate that you are not arguing in good faith.

And misinformation is a major problem. Even so banning it probably is the wrong solution. Instead simply coming to a consensus on someone's credibility seems like a better idea, though the whole point of misinformation is to control the consensus so maybe not..

I believe in freedom of speech. But to be honest I’m also afraid of it. I mean, for example a woman’s word is held in higher regard than a man’s. Both have free speech yet somehow women seem to have it at a higher level than men. I felt as though my rights to free speech were silenced in favor of the woman’s rights to free speech. That’s just not fair…

I do agree with you that the people who are advocating for getting rid of free speech should not have free speech. But who gets to decide that? Better to leave it as it is and enforce the Constitution.

@shoeboxcerealcard there are plenty of other instances where people will lose their freedom of speeches well. Go to prison and see how much freedom of speech you have in there, go to a school as a kid and see how much freedom of speech you have, threaten someone to level up incitement and see how much free speech you have.. etc.

People who are actively trying to dismantle free speech frankly shouldn't benefit from it but there's no way to enforce that without it being abused so I don't support that measure based on that.

There will always be needed limits on speech for society to function.

To be clear, I am not talking about speech that already isn't covered by the 1st Amendment such as threats, defamation, harassment, yelling "Fire!" in a theatre, etc.
