No, and I didn't 30 years ago and we voted unanimously not to but, we were forced to get two of them, anyway!
They said, "We're just gong to add a penny to your store purchase taxes and that'll pay for the stadiums." We voted against that so, they raised the taxes anyway and then destroyed the stadium we just had built 25 years before and forced two new ones on us because, apparently, footballers can no longer play on the same ground as the baseballers, and vice versa so, they each HAVE to have their own stadiums!!! Then, the hockey team said they couldn't skate anymore on the ice they'd been using since the `50's and wanted their own place because rock bands were always using that arena for their concerts. So, they tore down the arena, which was considered the jewel of the city, replaced it with a parking lot, across the street from a parking garage, and built a new place for the hockey nuts to skate, also right across the street, and STILL, rock bands play there all the time, anyway!! It's ALL BULLSHIT so these spoiled brats can get their way!!
Not unless it is for the public or major sports event like the Olympics or world cup or euros.
Yes, partly if its also used for youth sport or a part of the funding goes into helping people into sports who otherwise couldnt afford it. Maybe even integration sport events or meetings. We kinda alrewdy do it like that though.
If its just for the club and their training and games no. Let that stay private funding. They have more tuan enough money its absurd how much money these coorpartions make and they should pay more for it, because they get free avertising for the smallest amount thes invest in it. Its just super cheap avertising for them.
Sports teams can improve a communities quality of life... you have to admit going to a game is a lot of fun. Plus sports teams provide support to many associated businesses like bars and restaurants. So some... but not too much public money is not unreasonable in my opinion. But if a team must have significant taxpayer money to survive thats a step too far. Let it fail.
