Trending & News Affirmative action is dictionary-definition discrimination- there's not really a question about it.
If nothing else, United Steelworkers V. Weber made it explicitly legal to discriminate against us. You can imagine how valid I find that as the great-grandson of Irish immigrants. You know those "No Irish Need Apply" signs that the modern racists like to pretend never existed? Great-grandpa made a habit of stealing them. When great-grandma found them, she'd throw them out, but after they died, we went through their stuff and found eleven she'd missed- missed for four or five decades.
I kept one. I have it in a special box, alongside the registration confirmation form the SS sent me. I hang on to them as reminders of how easily brainwashed the bulk of humanity really is.
It’s not a belief, it’s an actual fact; cold and hard, you might say. Especially since you specified “america”. America includes North and South America, and some discussions break it down further with a “Central America”. I assure you that caucasians are minorities in central and south America. As a matter of perspective, we don’t suffer the same degree of discrimination in north America as we would down there. But yes, everyone suffers discrimination of one or more kinds in their lifetime. The question is whether you will use that experience to bring you closer to people who you otherwise have little in common with, or will you let it increase the divide between you?
You know its too bad we cannot experience what its like to live in someone else's skin. Maybe if you experienced what its like to be Black or Female or Asian and so on you would not ask questions like this...
