I don't think it will cause much from "the liberal media" or Democrats (at least the reasonable ones).

This is because, assuming Trump is convicted, he likely isn't going to get any jail time - at least not right away and whatever incarceration he does get will not be much...

All 34 counts in his New York fraud trial are Class E felonies (the lowest class) and all of the convictions (each up to 4 years) would be served concurrently. So, the worst-case scenario for Trump is he is sent to prison for 4 years maximum. He'd probably be paroled in 2 years. Of course, he will immediately appeal any conviction and likely remain out on appeal. The judge could also just give a sentence of probation. Another wild-card is that New York gets a GOP governor who then pardons Trump.

So, I wouldn't think too much of any sentence, but a conviction, no matter what the sentence, is still monumental historically since no President has been convicted of a felony.

Oh, I don't think he'll get a fine. For rich folks like Trump, most fines are meaningless and a large fine here is not warranted because of the nature of the crime. (A high fine would be a violation of the 8th Amendment.) Only incarceration speaks to a guy like Trump. Probation MAY happen, but I suspect that, if there's a conviction, Judge Merchan will give some time. Maybe only months followed by probation.

As I read this section of law and the sections being reference in this section, it does not appear that Trump can escape at least some jail time even if it's only a day.

Here's where the money is:

imprisonment and fix a term of one year or less.

So, 3b) says min = 1 year for a Class E. 4 is saying that the judge can make it less than 1 year, but there still has to be some imprisonment.

At least, that's how I read the statutes.

Personally I don't care at all. Politics is just a clown show and every person who's invested in it is always upset, tense, mad, stressed out, in disbelief etc. And American politics even more than most others. I don't have a clue what will happen if he gets no ail time except that he'll talk a lot and gloat a lot. If you're referring to the current trial that's about to end, I think exactly 0 people reasonably (keyword: reasonably) think he'd be sentenced to jail. I expect no change in polling for or against him regardless of outcome because this is a ho-hum nothing charge that'll probably just result in a fine. If he avoided jail for the other more serious charges, then there'd be a meltdown. And if he goes to jail, some different people will have a meltdown.

Democrats in general will likely be disappointed in the new York prosecutor for basically handing Trump another campaign talking point, which some in the liberal media predicted was the intention from the start. Republicans will likely try to make the entire election about Trumps acquittal since Republicans have nothing else to run.
