Notwithstanding its' beautiful scenery and such, California ranks dead last. As the columnist Mike Royko once said, "There is no sense putting a fence around California, because even if you did everyone in there would just flap their arms and fly out."

Highly expensive, unrestrained crime, poor education system. The list goes on. Never has one state had a larger concentration of nuts who seem not to learn the lessons of their own choices.

The least free of all the states are California, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii. They also are the states that are for the most part taxed the highest. New York as a state has lower state taxes than the others in the group but, New York City taxes put it near the top if you live in the city. California is the most polluted state. New York and New Jersey are also extremely bad when it comes to air pollution. The people in California, New York, and New Jersey are also real low class and generally considered some of the rudest states in the nation up there with the massholes in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and snobs in Washington state. All three have extremely high crime levels, homelessness issues, and massive amounts of drug abuse, and communism. Cost of living is high to live in those hell holes. I don't really understand it. I guess some people are just masochists.

Its probably is New York, although Massachusetts may be worse.

Massachusetts probably worse in policy terms but is also far smaller and thus has less culturally alien lands to be inherently imperial over.
Instead they just annoy the rest us of with their federal representation.

New York has reduced the vast majority of its territory outside it's city's to a colony living in abjectly economically repressive conditions.

Illinois is almost as bad, but they are surrounded by far superior states and thus can't get away with it as much as New York can. California by contrast is a light weight just starting.

South Carolina has competitive laws, great people, environment, and history when I was there.

The main thing I didn't like was how pretentious and shallow its leaders were in stark contrast with the people. Although many of them were quite shallow as well.

@Rangers yeah, I feel bad for the native population who is finding it increasingly harder to buy a home and sustain themselves with the cost of living there. I'm from Florida and although it has gotten more expensive it's not nearly as bad as Hawaii, and even I am thinking of relocating (not the only reason though). Sucks since I was born and raised here, it's probably way worse for people who are native to a place like (native) Hawaiians
