Ladies of GAG, what would you do if you woke up tomorrow, and all women under the age of 40 were required to sign up for the draft?

This would be for all women under the age of 40. Failure to do so would result in the same consequences men face, felony charges and prison time. As well as loss of the right to vote, and the right to own guns?

Well, I love my country. If there was a war happening here on this soil, I would have some hand in it, just like my dad and brother. Whether that would be on the trenches, nursing, charity work or making machinery. Australia didn't even need a draft for WW2, people just signed up voluntarily 🤷‍♀️ Guess that's the Aussie way lol

I mean I'm over 40 now, but I would have signed up. I doubt they would have accepted me as my leg is messed up, but I have always supported our military.

My great grandfather and his brothers were in WW 2. My great uncle served in vietnam and my dad’s cousin served in desert storm. If my country needed me I would serve 🇺🇸. I hope we never have to send anyone to combat again

What is your opinion of serving? Were you and other women treated well? Or abused? I get concerned about that, but I'm not in it.

I'm curious about this as well. by the way my prior comment was not sarcasm. It was the truth.

I served four years in the Army National Guard, and still have two inactive years left on my total commitment. I don't know how to measure it compared to full time active duty, but we could have been federalized and deployed just like any other Army unit. Overall, I enjoyed my time in service as a "weekend warrior." We deployed twice for disaster relief, and I had the obligatory 10 days of annual active duty for training with regular units each year in addition to monthly drills. It's a good chance to be part of something larger than yourself, mix with people from all walks of life, and be of service. I was certainly never abused as a woman, or treated any differently than the men. It's like any place else, just do the job. I did get picked on a lot, but it had more to do with my size (I'm under 5' tall and weigh in just over 80 pounds) than being a woman, but I've always experienced that in civilian life as well. That's why I have a thick skin and can take a joke. The military (regardless of branch or component) is no place for anyone with low self esteeem, regardless of gender.
