3.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You bet I am. In fact, I have not missed voting in an election - Federal, state or local government levels - since I turned 18 and registered to vote in 1981.
The first man I voted for to be President was Ronald Reagan in 1984. He won in a 49 state landslide - carrying everything but obdurate Minnesota.
Coincidence that he won in a record landslide when I cast my first presidential vote? I wonder...

1 yYep. And i hate the corrupt pilitics here. Its basically down to where only 50 rich state representatives actually vote, and the rest of our votes are just entertainment to make it seem like our votes matter... and even that level is corrupted by "no choice" voting, blocking voters via police, unreasonable voting times where people are at work and with the backed-up long line of votors they will have it open for 2-3 hours closing when people are getting off work, being lied to saying we are allowed to talk to the undecided, meanwhile they are pushed to the chosen candidate and/or they use other means such as bribery, then there's the hacked digital voting booths that picks the opposite/party-chosed candidate of what you pushed, then there is the brainwashing tactics used against any progressive or grass root candidates, by telling voters "3rd party doesn't matter" and that "a vote for 3rd party is a vote for the enemy"... shiz is messed up and voting is near pointless by how unreasonable and anti-voter it is.

Iโm happy for you ๐โค๏ธ- 1 y
Ty! I work over and vacation. I can name all the US presidents, not alphabetically, every state and I have relatives here.
- 1 y
@geminidiamond When you wrote "It only took about 5 yearsโ Is that b/c you just became a US Citizen? Iโm only asking because my dad is British, and became a US citizen, which took 5 years, due to needing to wait 5yrs after receiving a green card.
Iโm just curious
Laura ๐ค - 1 y
Correct. Green card to citizen to registered voter.
- 1 y
Congratulations! Seriously, I think people like you and my dad are the most patriotic Americans there are, because you are an American by choice, not an accident of birth, and you worked your ass of to become an American! So again congratulations! Itโs an honor to know you.
Most Sincerely
Laura - 1 y
Ty ! I'm involved in certain facets where it is beneficial for my family to be a US citizen. I have deep roots in the US, where some of my family were born in the US, and migrated here from Germany.
- 1 y
Well it is always a pleasure to get the honor of speaking with someone who emigrated to the US, and the worked so hard to become an American. Because of the classes he took, he knows more about civics, US history, and the Constitution than my mom, who is a US Military Combat Veteran, Although I was born on US soil, we emigrated here from England when I was 6, and have dual nationality. But I always like to take time out to acknowledge and congratulate anyone who took that oath to the US. Watching my dad taking the oath, and being sworn in as a new United States Citizen when I was 12, was such an honor. I was so proud of him.
Again, itโs an honor to meet you.
Sincerely, Laura ๐ค - 1 y
I've noticed that as well when talking about American History with Americans. Some can't even recall the president from 20 years ago, or who signed the declaration of Independence, but they celebrate the holiday. Thank you for the welcome! There is a lot of fun places to go and site see in the US

Yes I agree. The US is amazing. Wanna ski in the Alps? Go Colorado, or Boon/Blowing Rock, NC. Wanna go to the French Riviera? Miami, Tampa, Southern California. Wanna go to Germany to see the Black Forrest? Go anywhere in Appalachia. I could go on all night. Wanna go to Tahini of Fiji, go to Hawaii, Norway? Alaska! It really is the greatest country on earth! I loved learning to love my country from my immigrant father!
Again, Iโm honored to know you
Laura ๐ค - 1 y
You rock. Been to Oktoberfest, Beerfest, Lederhosen to bring back my culture at some events. Mardi Gras, Louisiana, Street Party in Miami.. etc etc. And all the US roots were immigrants at one time. Honored to know me, but not my follow.

My bad, itโs been a VERY weird week for me sweetie. Iโve been getting Ketamine therapy. Itโs changed my life, but my god itโs indescribable. both beautiful and at times terrifying! It REALLY brings trauma right to the surface. Although I woke up in the fetal position sobbing, like TRULY sobbing, screaming get me the fck out of here, Iโm NEVER coming back, that was the worst experience of my life! Within 15 minutes I was calm, serene, and felt like a decade and a half of sexual abuse and rape was just lifted off me. Iโve honestly never felt better. But iโve had 3 sessions in 7 days, and Iโm sleeping through the might for the first time since my uncle raped me when I was 13. So, not to make excuses, but just to proffer an explanation. Iโm not in my โusualโ wide awake, canโt-sleep space at 2am anymore. So it just completely slipped my mind. Iโll do that now.
Sincerely, Laura ๐ค - 1 y
Oh, and thank you for the โyou rockโ! (See, Iโm not in my usual head space right now. But Iโm finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, and for once itโs not a train!)
