Hmm I would say we are a damn sight better now to a thousand years ago.

Better in what way? everyone is unhappy slaves to made up, bullshit political agendas meant to promote equality. we give more to strangers than to our own countrymen. we go to war and the only reward the soldiers get is shitty healthcare and their base salary. children are born autistic, down syndrome, Etc. in record numbers. Not to mention how almost everyone needs braces, because their face is too small for their teeth. People are so sensitive they need their own special pronouns. What's better? We are like children who grew up, most of our dreams were crushed. Yeah we are adults now and life is "better", but we're fat, sick, and pacified with little hope of life ever getting better.

Oh I am pretty sure, we had Viking raids, the major attack from Sweyn, a fair few massacres and villages depopulated. Cnut attacked Scotland, more deaths and mayhem, oh and before that we had Massacre of St Brice's day and they tried to murder all Danes in England. We had slaves with zero rights and could be killed without any reason. If you reached 35 you were doing well, nobles and clergy might reach 50, child mortality rates were crazy.
Life is really good now.
