Presidents have always had some degree of immunity. Harry Truman ordered the deaths of thousands of Japanese citizens.
he could have been tried with war crimes but since he ordered the atomic bombs to be dropped as part of his presidential duties he was granted immunity. The only reason this is an issue now is because the democrats are using their Biden run DOJ to weaponize the justice system to try and keep President Trump from winning the election. They know that they cannot beat Biden by running on his dismal record. They have to try and put him in prison. Trump had 6 court cases aimed at him. If he did not run for re-election and if it did not look like he would beat Biden like a rented mule in the 2024 election none of this would be happening.

Yes because its a principled decision, you can't have a functioning presidency if you can then be sued as the president. Its the congress thats supposed to impeach and convinct if they do something wrong. Those measures are still in place.
