According to the Lancaster Farming Newspaper. The Food and Drug Administration has given a favorable regulatory review of the drug Bovaer for use in the feed of lactating cows. Generically called 3-NOP. This drug suppresses the enzyme in the cows rumen that forms methane. 1 tablespoon per day will reduce methane emissions by 30%, or about 1.2 metric tons annually!
What is next? Catalytic converters?

I agree with some of the comments on here. Has it been tested enough to know that there isn’t future side effects. Like fertility, cancers, birth defects and things we haven’t thought of yet. Passed on to consumers through the milk.
Makes you wonder what our government is doing behind our backs that we don’t know about.

Clearly they don't want to stop cow farts... So I looked up the drug and the first thing I noticed was 3-Nitrooxypropanol is the active ingredient. I look at the molecular model and it sure looks like it wants to become either a nitrate ester or nitrosamine. In my head this screams cancer in humans. Nitrate esters would be soluble in fat thus would likely make there way into the milk fat of the animal and turn dairy products into a carcinogen. This is more likely what they are hoping to achieve.

Measures to control methane in agriculture are nothing new. Improved feed, breeding, and in the past few years drugs. Agriculture does produce a lot of methane and its fair to say if other industries have to reduce emissions so do farmers. You can either do that by shutting down animal farms and us all turning vegan or you can reduce methane by means like this.

Then the Vegans and Vegetarians should also be required to take this methane reducing drug. If animal farts are killing us. What about human flatulence? When eating vegetation. 🌲🌱
